A Note of Gratitude to the Hive Community on My 7th Hive’versary

in #hivelast year

Today is Independence Day here in America but for over half a decade I’ve viewed it as my Hive'versary Eve. Tomorrow, July 5th, will mark seven years of blogging on the blockchain. We’ll be on the road tomorrow so I wanted to make sure to leave a quick note of gratitude on my blog today.

Let’s explore some of the stats from those seven years of blogging.

950 Posts

56000 Upvotes

There have been lots of ups and downs during my time here, too many highs, lows, and whirlwinds of drama to count. But that kind of encapsulates the world of crypto and blockchain though, doesn’t it? It’s akin to surfing some crazy, wild wave.

What can’t truly be quantified are the relationships I’ve made on this blockchain along the way and the wealth of knowledge and abundance we’ve all gained.

“In the end, though, maybe we must all give up trying to pay back the people in this world who sustain our lives. In the end, maybe it's wiser to surrender before the miraculous scope of human generosity and to just keep saying thank you, forever and sincerely, for as long as we have voices.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

I, honestly, can’t point to a single thing that has changed my life more profoundly than this place. When I think about where I am now in comparison to where I was seven years ago I still sometimes can’t believe it. Almost nothing in my life is the same, especially how I view the world. Before, I was as though I was lost in the quagmire of existence and now it feels like I’m cruising at 30,000 feet and able to see more of the big picture.

As I’ve said in previous Hive’versary posts, I tried to open an account in late June of 2016 but had an issue with my password. I almost brushed it off, gave up and went about my normal life. I shudder to think about the implications there would have been if I would have done that, how much I would’ve missed out on if I wouldn’t have taken that one final step and asked the Dev team for help.

I won’t drone on, I’ll keep it brief, I’d just like to take a moment and thank all of you who’ve supported me and helped to educate me in a multitude of ways. I’m very grateful for the friends I’ve made here and those with the foresight to build, maintain, and help this platform continue to evolve. It’s given me, and so many others, not only a true voice but also hope for a better future. I will be forever grateful.

Hive is such a wonderful mosaic that we all can contribute to and play a part in. It will become what we make of it.

Thank you!

All for now. Trust your instincts, invest in you, live boldly, and take chances.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Wow it's really a milestone to celebrate, spending such years here with your consistency and hardwork is very much appreciated. Congratulations!

Thanks!

Congratulations on your Hive'versary! It's amazing to see how much you've accomplished in the past seven years. Your blog posts are always so informative and inspiring, and I'm grateful for the insights you've shared with me.

I can definitely relate to the feeling of being lost in the quagmire of existence. I've been there myself, and I know how difficult it can be to find your way out. But Hive has given me a sense of purpose and community that I never had before. It's helped me to connect with people from all over the world, and to learn about different cultures and perspectives.

I'm also grateful for the friendships I've made on Hive. You've all been so supportive and encouraging, and I'm so lucky to have you all in my life.

Here's to many more years of Hive!

Thank you and that's very kind of you to say! I'm glad you've embraced this platform and it's helped you in positive ways. It's helped me through some pretty dark times as well as well as broadening my perspective. Cheers to many more years!

Congratulations @ericvancewalton! You received a personal badge!

I don't think it's ever too late to say Congratulations.

Congratulations you have done well☺️

Hive has also been a wonderful place for me and I am looking forward to celebrate my first 1 year anniversary

That's awesome. I hope you do something to celebrate, when the time comes!

Seven years of impact. Forging beautiful friendships, unprecedented growth and learning. Happy 7th anniversary to you @ericvancewalton. I don't know whether it's okay to wish you a more fruitful seven years to come but I hope you remain happy no matter how long you stay on Hive. Cheers.✨

I appreciate it, thanks! Cheers to you.

Forge friendships, sharing content what more do we ask for other than the great outdoors!

Happy 7th Hive'versary, enjoy celebrating July 4th in more ways than one!

Thank you very much Joan!

Great you carried on, would have missed the fun otherwise.

Have a great day.

Congratulations! What a milestone to reach. And what a story at the end with it almost not happening due to the password.

It is incredible what this platform and overall community has done and can do for us (especially the creative people). And I absolutely love and adore the metaphor you used at the end. A “mosaic” of different people and things. I might just use that idea a bit more!

In any case, safe travels, and hopefully happy baking sometime soon!

Thank you, my friend! Oh, I try not to even think about what my life would be like now if I hadn't have followed up on that log-in info. It's been a real blessing for me. It's allowed me to do things that I would never even have dreamed of.

The more I think about it, the more I like the name "Mosaic" for the entire platform. It works on a lot of levels.

Thanks, I hope to bake shortly after we get back home this week. I have a new oven to try out!

Same here. As most of the other originals, I came from the other platform. But I never saw the hard fork and I was not that savvy with tech and crypto, plus my studies (I was writing my MA thesis back then) kept me so busy. So I thought I was done with it, until someone in a random comment told me about Hive and HF. Without that angel of a person, I would never have been where I am now.

It surely does! It also works so well in my field of studies as well. I usually refer to it as a rhizome, but Mosiac is so much better, I might just include it in a footnote!

Oh that is the best reason to bake. Enjoy the new oven!

I'm very glad you found your way here! The evolution of this space has been a tad precarious but it's always persisted because, I believe, decentralized social media is "meant to be". It's kind of the natural path of evolution, away from the corporate controlled centralized platforms. We're just still SO early, the masses haven't quite figured it out yet.

Who do we talk to to rebrand to Mosaic?! Lol. This might be a brand better suited to mass adoption.

Thank you! This new oven has a powerful convection fan in it (the size of a dinner plate) so it'll be fun to experiment with.

So true. Many people do not understand the concept yet. Or they are still "fooled" by the ideology of those in control of web2 social media. (On a different note and one that will be oversimplified in such a short reply, it is scary how people are still stuck on the "God-like" figures such as the owners of these platforms and how they essentially control the narrative.)

Mosiac here we come!

Oh that sounds fun! Like a kid in a toy shop. You should really enjoy it! Please make updates on the baking process and tag me if you decide to write a post!

Hello dear friend @ericvancewalton good day

7 years!! Hot dang!! Congrats mate, it's a crazy place at times but never stops being amazing!

Thank you! Yes! It's crazy how fast those years went. It has been pretty consistently amazing despite cyclical dips and the occasional drama.

Seven years is really a long journey spent here and I appreciate every of your work, poem and post published.

Thank you, Michael!

Happy Anniversary my friend! I bet you have added alot to this blockchain over the years.

Enjoy your travelling!

Thank you very much!

I'm so glad you didn't give up on that damn password. You are such a cool person to have met through this wonderful contraption. I remember when I was very small on the platform and you were one of the big guys, you know? The sort you see as a new guy on the platform and think, hmm, better get chatting to these guys. :D so glad I did. and so glad you're here.

Happy anniversary, my friend, and safe travels as you go <3

Jesus, me too! I would still be pushing stacks of paper and trying to keep up with endless emails and phone calls.

I'm glad I got to experience what that felt like, once in my life, in the early days of this platform. The time I was on top was brief (18 months or so) but the experience was intoxicating and I'll remember it for the rest of my life. Speaking on the same stage as Neil Strauss?! I still can't believe it. So many of those pioneers I began with are no longer here. I wonder about some of them sometimes. There were so many unique characters.

There was this guy I met at SF1 in AMS. He had hitchhiked all the way to The Netherlands from somewhere in Russia. The platform was (and still is to some extent) like a bright light attracting all of these free-thinkers. It opened my mind to so many new possibilities.

Thanks, my friend. I'm very happy to have met you and your mom too. We're back from the North Shore wilderness now, already prepping for our next adventure. : ) Enjoy the rest of your week!

Indeed, there are so many insanely talented and quirky and inspiring people on here. I think it's very good for the soul, really, to expose yourself to this type of people on a regular basis. For me, personally, I know it's very healthy to look here and see "oh, so-and-so is brave enough to do this" or has done something cool and awe-inspiring. It's cool.

I wonder what happened to a lot of people who left, too. I wonder why they never came back. I could never stay away for more than a few months, so I genuinely wonder. Maybe it no longer aligned to who they needed to be. Who knows..

How was the wilderness? If I'm not mistook, your Irish adventure isn't far now :) Yo too!

For sure! There are some incredibly talented people here and I was lucky to collaborate with a few of them on joint projects. I miss that! I think many of them just got burned out because of all the ups and downs and some of the drama that occurred. A few of them have gone on to become successful YouTubers -- TangerineTravels, MaddieGold, and HeidiTravels (her old Hive name) started the Crypto Tips channel. My wife and I met all these people at SF1/2 and they parlayed their Steemit/Hive content into something more mainstream.

We had a lot of fun on the Northshore! There are plenty of pictures and videos in my previous two posts. The bugs descended on us during our last night at the geodome. Mosquitos don't bother me much but they ate my wife and son alive. They'll both be itching for the next week. We have 68 days until "check-in" for our flight to Ireland. I can't wait. We're probably doing one more trip before the end of the year too but we're not sure where yet.

What really struck me and expanded the way I viewed the world were the free-thinkers, I suppose because I was raised in a household that was busy focusing on day-to-day survival.

My wife and I met all these people at SF1/2 and they parlayed their Steemit/Hive content into something more mainstream.

Hmm, makes sense. I was just thinking the other day content on here tends to follow a higher standard than elsewhere. You don't get away with the same type of self-promotion, or junk material. That's a good thing, but also no, as long as you wanna break into the mainstream. And who has the energy to keep both going separately, you know?

Mosquitos don't bother me much but they ate my wife and son alive.

Oh dear, my sympathies. I'm not bothered much either, as long as they don't get near my ears. Hate the sound way more than the actual bites.

I count days till check-in too :D It's so exciting, isn't it? Like a rocket take-off. I'm sure wherever that end-of-year trip ends up being is gonna be great :)

I agree about the quality on Hive, the good content tends to find its way to top-trending eventually. It's helpful that Hive doesn't make you pay for outreach. Those YT channels I mentioned are probably generating an income stream similar to what Steemit was paying during its peak years but being a YouTuber is a precarious thing. They can shut down or throttle the outreach of your channel for any reason at any time. Their algorithms also force content creators to make more and more extreme content to keep their audience engaged. I think that can be dangerous and it would make me nervous to rely on as an income stream.

Thank you! I'm getting so psyched about Ireland, I can't wait! In some ways the weeks leading up to the trip are as exciting as the trip itself. I think our next trip will either be France or, possibly, Japan. Where are you off to next?

Before anything else, I want to congratulate you for all the work you have done and how much you have been able to grow in all this time! But I also want to thank you, THANK YOU, with capital letters, for all the support, the learning and especially the time you have dedicated to build this bridge between you and us, your readers. This journey has been incredible and although as you have said, at times it has had its dizzying lows, we have also managed to achieve the thrill of achieving great things. Tomorrow, July 5th, Independence Day in Venezuela, I celebrate you Eric Vance Walton and all the abundance that is to come. I embrace you

Thanks so much Nancy! I wouldn't trade these past seven years for anything. Writing and interacting with you all here on this platform has given me immeasurable joy and has also been a wonderful incubator for new story ideas. I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I hope to still be here seven years from now. : ) Cheers, and I hope you have an amazing Independence Day tomorrow!

First of all, i would love to congrats you for completing your 7 years on this beautiful platform. Yes, it was a journey of ups and down and you stay consistent during this journey which makes you successful on this platform. Just keep writing like this.

Thank you very much!

It turns out that you have been in Hive for 7 years. I think there are many things about Hive that have changed your life. Happy anniversary , Eric. Also congratulations on the independence day of your country. have a nice day.

Thank you Eliana! It has been quite an amazing journey! I hope you're having a wonderful week.

Many many congratulations and happy 7th anniversary. I've been working here for months now and this platform is so great the way we see people supporting each other so much especially those who have contacts. If we continue to work hard on this platform, then one day we will surely get success, the way we see that you have worked hard within seven years.

Thank you! I always say Hive is what each individual makes of it. Everyone can contribute in different ways based on their own strengths. It's easy to forget how early we still are, even seven years in. Decentralized social media is still in its infancy. Slowly, but surely, it'll encapsulate the entire world.

You have done it right. It takes time but a man becomes successful the way you are now seven years but still you must be learning some new things because I believe that man. Something should be learned at every opportunity of life.

Congratulations on 7 years on Hive, Eric! I've enjoyed reading your posts and learning from you over the years. Thank you for being such a valuable member of the community.

I hope you enjoy your anniversary!

Thank you @rocksg! You've been here a while too. I'm happy to hear you've enjoyed the content over the years.

Yes dear, right now I'm creating content on cryptocurrency educational posts. I hope you enjoy them too.

Happy anniversary. Or Steemversary/Hiveversary. I registered one year after you. On 2017.05.17. So approximately two months ago I celebrated my sixth year on the Steem/Hive blockchain.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Thanks so much! Six years is quite an accomplishment, I'm glad to have met you here! I hope you've had a great week. Much love from America!

Wow! 7 years is a long time if you look at it from another perspective, from mine for example.
It is a very beautiful gesture to thank you in this way and with such nice words, personally you inspired me a lot.
I have only been on the platform for a year and I have noticed the great difference in values that this spectacular place has compared to many others, which motivates me more and more.
Congratulations, I hope you continue having many more years here and thank you for uploading such a nice post. Greetings from Latin America <3

I'm glad you've found your way to Hive! This platform really is what you make of it. If you engage with others, learn as you go, and create good content there's no limit to what you can achieve. Thank you @juva!
