In less than a month I will have been on this blockchain for seven whole years. I joined up a few months after it started when @the-bitcoin-dood suggested I give it a look. We had been on the Tsu platform that just got shut down. That one paid users from advertising income, but there was no blockchain involved. I made a few hundred dollars there over a couple of years. I donated some to charities and spent a little on things for myself, but it was not sustainable. When I saw this new site I could see how it had the potential to be much better. It did not rely on a single corporation and the value would be up to the crypto markets.
I am loathe to mention the 'S site' as it leaves a bad taste. When it was sold we could see things were not looking great, but the community was able to fork the blockchain to create Hive. My old account got censored for criticising the new management. I was still able to extract my funds, which I sold for $HIVE. That gave my account a big boost as every Hive account based on an existing one got equivalent tokens.
I do not hold significant amounts of other crypto. I have various Hive Engine tokens, but that is just a few hundred dollars. I have bought some $HIVE, but the bulk of it comes from posting and curation rewards by being active almost every day.
When I first joined up I had plenty of posts that made nothing. Meanwhile some others made thousands from a post as the rewards algorithm was different. I think at one point I needed 1000SP to give a vote of 1c.
Over the years I have seen the value of my account change massively. It has sometimes gone up or down by thousands of dollars overnight. As I have to wait to power down I just have to ride it out. The peak value was nearly $200k in late 2021, but it is worth a lot less now. If this platform can achieve its potential then I think it could go much higher.
I keep a log of various statistics for my account in a spreadsheet, but we have access to various tools online.
HiveStats shows what I have made recently.
On HiveBuzz you can see your rank for various factors. There are now 168 accounts with at least 100k HP. I hope to see that increase. Some familiar names are just ahead of me. We would have a lot more, but many people moved funds into HBD savings to get the nice income from that. I prefer to have HP that allows me to distribute rewards.
I rank higher for other things:
- 87th for comments
- 39th for replies
- 64th for upvoted
- 129th for reputation. I hit 78 last week
I do love statistics, so these are great facilities.
So what is my next milestone? It will take a long time to get to another significant number. It could take years just to double my HP, let alone reach Whale level (~560k). Getting my reputation to increment would take at least a year. I would like to get my effective HP to 100k as I delegate to various other accounts.
Of course I love that I can earn from Hive, but I have no immediate plans to power down. I would like the $HIVE price to be much higher before I consider that, so I should have a while to keep powering up. I get that others need the money now and that is fine. Hive is making life better for many people and that is really important.
Hive is all about potential. Anyone can make it here if they put in the work and do not try to game the system. We do have cliques, but I do not buy most of the stories about big accounts trying to keep the small ones down. There may be exceptions as online anonymity can be exploited for bullying. We get more upvotes than downvotes, so I think it balances out on the positive side.
Hive five!
