The News
I added an extra coin to my chart this week. I am sure many people know the history of Hive, but others should read some history on how it came about. The 'legacy chain' Steemit has been pretty stagnant from what I have seen. A few people manage to get huge rewards on their posts, but there is no development going on. Since the fork they have made no effort to control their so-called stablecoin Steem Backed Dollars (SBD). It has been at $5-8 for ages, but just over a week ago it plummeted to about 10% of that. It has settled down there now at well below what it was supposed to be. I expect a lot of people are much worse off now. It is a while since $STEEM and $HIVE diverged so I wonder if this is the end for that platform. I think their witnesses are largely under the control of Justin Sun or whoever runs things now so it is not at all decentralised. Despite that it still has users, some of whom are exiles from Hive. Some post there and on Blurt where they are 'safe' from downvotes. The $BLURT price is way less than a cent with no significant trading going on. Note that $HBD is very stable, but that is down to people actively (and expensively) making that happen.
I think Hive should be open to people who give up on Steemit if they are willing to behave themselves. We need more active users. You do not have to like everyone here and probably will not anyway.
If you want more news about what is happening around Hive then I recommend the updates from @gadrian who finds all the tasty morsels.
Friday Follows
- Miss Universe contestant @missbitcoin-sv has been an ambassador for crypto and is out promoting Hive. She has been showing off a Hive debit card that sounds interesting.
- @nupulse (aka Billy Korg) has a new song out.
- There is also new music from drummer @ale-dri.
- Creative people may want to check out the daily sessions run by @alessandrawhite as you may get inspired. One person I found there is Swedish composer @andysporring who is putting out lots of music and insights into how he works.
The Dog House
This is a case I found myself. My script to find Brits found @thegreatmogul who has 'UK' on their profile, but has never posted in eight years. They do not have much HP, but I had a look at who they vote for and it seems to be just two accounts @zezozo and @mmidoaa. Neither of these is doing any comments, but they churn out several posts each day that are largely 'memes' taken from elsewhere. In some cases they are repeating these and we should all know that is a sin on Hive. One of the accounts does not seem to be claiming their rewards, but the other passes them on to another who cashes out. The sums involved are not huge, but it seems like cheating the system for profit whilst contributing nothing of value.
Maybe someone will decide to cancel out their meagre rewards. We cannot stop people posting, but we can prevent them earning like this.
The End
These are strange times for the world, but I hope everyone is doing okay. I think there are definite benefits from getting off the corporate social platforms that can be full of disinformation and intrusive ads. Hive is a haven for me, even with all its faults. If you can persuade your friends to move over then you can reduce your dependence on those hellholes.
Hive is a journey and you should make it a fun one.
