This week's Battle Mage Secrets rule set challenge was Stampede in which every monster gains the Stampede ability at the beginning of the battle...
If a monster makes a kill then there is a chance they will attack again afterwards, there is no limit to the number of times this may trigger if they keep on killing!
Stampede only applies to Melee monsters.
Stampede general strategy....
The combination of rulesets has to be right to make this work, i.e. it has to be worth playing melee monsters!
Reach, sneak, opportunity all make sense!
In terms of defence, thorns, shields and repair if you're anticipating increased melee attacks! Also resurrect if lots of shields!
Stampede battle exemplar
The battle below shows a battle Chanseus and lots of repairing going on in a victory!
Mana and rulesets:
- mana 49
- ruleset - melee only, stampede and gladiator.
Summoner: Chanseus for the repair!
- Uriel the Purifier - relying on those shields and repairs
- Junker - for the reach
- Armoursmith - for the repair
- Kraulus - cheeky magic in addition to the rest
- Dumair Exile - sneak 1
- Feral Spirit - sneak 2 and hoping for a few misses with high speed!
- Bajikeera -
The battle...
- round 1 - I take out Ureas with two hits. My opponent misses Feral FOUR times, that's the speed difference! His tank has a massive 9 damage, but it's all on shields which are repaired each round 3 times over!
- round 2 - I land two hits on my opponent's Assassin, I also take out his tank with a massive damage attack from Uriel. Three misses on the feral but the slow Sandworm gets him, but no worries, he is RESURRECTED!
- round 3 - We trade blows for no losses, another miss on the Feral!
- round 4 - I take out the Sandworm.
- round 5 - I take out card 5
- round 6 - it's all over I'm 6 for 6!
Final battle analysis
My strategy was to keep the tank alive hence all the repairs high up and then nullify any sneak attacks with Kraulus, the two sneak attacks at the rear were partly fluff. I mainly hoped to win with the two melee attacks at the front!
I got lucky with the misses, but then again one makes one's own luck, I had high speed, my opponent had three MUCH SLOWER sneak monsters.
My high speed and repair strategy worked VERY NICELY!
Stampede final thoughts...
It's a fun rule set, but without melee only alongside, however based on this battle, ignore it, it didn't trigger once!
