Hello hivians,
hello musiclovers!
this is our weekly interview post. We want to sharpen your senses for HIVE musicians, that´s why we made it our goal to interview a new musician every week.
There are a tremendous amount of very talented musicians on our HIVE Blockchain. Too many of them are going unnoticed. We at HMVF and Blocktunes are here to change that. Our interview series will let you get a look behind the curtain of some of these artists. Their music, their process, and their goals. Let us come together to support the music of HIVE.
Of course these posts will also have the purpose of collecting funds for HMVF, to be able to create as many music videos for these awesome artists as possible. 🎵
We wish you lot´s of fun with the interviews and consider supporting these awesome artists please!
This week's musician is The Turtle Project.
As a musician builds up experience in the music world many things can happen. The dedication to the craft creates opportunities if the staying power is there. The Turtle Project spent time in many bands, doing countless gigs building experience before he stumbled upon the fact that he could actually put those experiences and many others into words. The composing aspect grew from that into what it is today ... The Turtle Project way of life
🎤 Enjoy the interview here!
First off, how did the artist name The Turtle Project come about?
When I played in bands back in the 90's and 2000's I was in a reggae/ska band called Brother Vegetable, this was my first band that I did gigs with. The bass player in the band said that I reminded him of a cartoon turtle character from the 80's , as the turtle used to say yep and nope like I did, instead of yes and no, this lead to my nickname being Turtle , it kinda stuck over the years , so when it came time to chose a name for my solo project, it naturally became The Turtle Project.
How would you describe your sound?
I guess my sounds is always changing from year to year , album to album. I always like to make something fresh and diferent from what I have done before, sometimes it will be a bit samey, as we can't escape our base sound too much, but I think I do have a variety of styles that I have tried over the years. I have been called unique a lot of times, if that is a good thing or not I am not sure ha ha
Which artists have had the greatest influence on you?
Probably Marillion, The The, Pink Floyd, Gorillaz, Chris De Burgh and also many hip hop stars when it comes to inspiration for my rap tunes
What is your songwriting process? How does a song come together for The Turtle Project?
Sometimes lyrics first, then I get a melody in my head to fit them and go from there, Sometimes I will play around with a piano melody or chord sequence and build it into a whole instrumental piece and then I'l hear some words, usually one line will pop out to the sounds I hear and it will grow from that seed into a finished song. Sometimes I have no idea where it comes from, it just appears out of nowhere, they are usually the best ones that stand the test of time because they are naturally and magically born songs.
What do you hope that the listener takes away from your music?
An emotion, any emotion, if I can provoke an emotion then my job is done.
How do you think being a part of the Hive blockchain will help your music career?
Well. it's a good place to be to meet people and to get your music out there for sure, great place to build a community which is a big part in moving forward. It's a hard road to walk , it's even harder if you do it alone, so finding a community to work with on collabs or even for just some helpful advice is important to me.
Share a tip for other hard-working artists out there searching for success in the new music industry?
I don't think I am qualified to give tips on success ha ha, I'm still a struggling musician myself, maybe my tip should be , DON'T DO IT ha ha, only joking of course.
just be true to yourself and that way what ever happens at least you know you kept it real.
What does the future hold for The Turtle Project?
More of the same and probably some different stuff too, I am slowly working on the 3rd part of the Ancient Files trilogy album, so that is fun, although it's moving at a snails pace at the mo, but you can't hurry these things, especially when you are a turtle :) it will happen when it is meant to.
