MegaCon is one of the many, many ComiCon style conventions around the country every year. It is located in the Orlando, Florida area and has been held at the Orange County Convention Center since 2000. Back in 1999 is was still fairly small. However, it has grown and is now one of the largest in the country. I believe only New York ComiCon and San Diego ComiCom excee it in terms of attendance. This is the only such convention I go to as it is relatively local to me. I've only missed one year since 1999. The last few years at least it has been during the first week of February. That's why I'll be posting more irregularly the next few days.
The thing I like to do most is to go to the various panels. I find it interesting to hear actors from various shows or movies that I watch tell stories about their time working on those projects. Some are better storytellers than others of course. The first day didn't have many panels of interest for me but that as usually the case as there are relatively few on Thursday. At the end of the day there was a panel with Paul Walter Hauser of Cobra Kai fame (and lots of other things) that I went to. While Thursday is typically a relatively slow day compared to Friday and Saturday, it seemed pretty busy this year. I'm not looking forward to the crowds on Saturday.
After spending money on tickets and hotel, I usually don't buy a whole lot in the vendor hall. I look for things with a high entertainment to cost ration. Most years I'll pick up a bunch of $10 (or cheaper) comics. Usually I do this on Sunday which is when you see the most deals like that. However, while wandering through the vendor hall I ran across one place that was selling $1 comics and picked up about 50 of them.
I'll try to wander through the vendor hall again on Sunday but I don't really plan on spending more. There are some interesting coffee and tea choices (as in coffee beans and whole leaf tea) which might be an exception. I've bought some in past years. There are a whole lot more panels to go to though. Eventually I'll post videos but I am literally years behind.
