Trump and Allies Attack Kamala Harris on Race and Gender

No longer was it two white men born in the 1940s facing off — again — for who should return to the White House. Instead, it’s between Trump, a man who is 78, against Harris, who is 59 and would make history as the first woman and first woman of color to be president if she is elected.
And within a day, Harris was already facing attacks that centered on her race and gender, making it clear that while Republicans may try to tie her to some of Biden’s policies, she will face criticisms he never did.
It is some of the same playbook that Trump and his allies ran the last time a woman was on top of a major-party ticket.

Mark Kelly, A Potential Democratic VP Candidate, Endorses The PRO Act

Kelly’s lack of full commitment to the PRO Act, as it’s known, has stood as a possible barrier to him becoming Democrats’ vice-presidential nominee, since labor unions are a crucial part of the Democratic coalition.

Trump Allies Warn Him Not to Underestimate Harris

Trump has recently been told that the Trump lieutenants who assured him that Vice President Harris was easily beatable were wrong; that some recent Republican internal polling suggests that Harris could indeed be formidable in states that Trump needs to win in order to retake power; and that some of the more rabid, openly sexist attacks on Harris coming from various sectors of the pro-Trump right are prone to backfire with critical swing voters and suburban women.
Trump has lately managed to restrain himself from engaging in these kinds of attacks, even though he’s repeatedly asked associates over the years if they’d heard the rumors circulating about the alleged details of Harris’ sex and romantic life, according to two sources who speak regularly to Trump.

Ministry of Truth

For as long as historical records have existed, authoritarian regimes have tried to rewrite history to suit their purposes, using their dictatorial powers to create myths, spread propaganda, justify decisions, erase opponents, and even dispose of crimes.
Today, as America’s Republican Party becomes increasingly radicalized, it’s not surprising to see the GOP read from a similarly despotic script.

Trump Is Suddenly Fighting for Attention

For the first time since Donald Trump was indicted in the spring of 2023, he has lost his grip on the news cycle and — temporarily at least — his message. Instead of commanding morning-to-night media attention, the former president and his allies suddenly find themselves reacting to their opponents.
It’s an unfamiliar experience for Mr. Trump, who has monopolized America’s televisions, newspapers and smartphones for more than 12 months through indictments, primary victories, 34 felony convictions, an assassination attempt and a Republican National Convention at which he was celebrated as a quasi-religious figure.
