This years version of a very old design the 2024 St Helena silver Athena owl coin doesn't disappoint.
I don't think they made an Athena owl coin in 2023 and the 2022 had the image of Queen Elizabeth II, so this is the first issue of an Athena owl coin with the image of King Charles III.
The use of the Athena owl has got to be one of the oldest designs dating back to around 512 BC. The image has had some different looks over the years but they have all had very similar designs.
Being a part of Greek mythology I'm pretty sure the first design was from Greece. This years design is from the Island nation of St. Helena, located in the South Atlantic somewhat close to Africa.
The obverse side features the portrait of King Charles III faceing left in the center with square spiral pattern in the background. There is a wide band around the outside surrounded by dots circling the coin. The band is inscribed with £1, ST. HELENA, KING CHARLES III, ONE OUNCE 999 SILVER, 2024.
The Reverse side features the same square spiral background pattern as the obverse side. The iconic image of the Athena owl is in the center purched on a stick. There is an olive branch to the left and just above that is a moon crescent and sidewaze letters AOE on the right of the owl.
