Some compare artificial intelligence to a child who has to be given information so that it can create its own criteria and make its own decisions. It has always been said that there is no rigid manual on how to be a good parent, but there are courses on how to manage and help analyse artificial intelligence. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages it has brought? I will answer from my limited perspective. Please join me.
In the social field, artificial intelligence has brought noticeable benefits. It has started with small things, like word completion, translators, and it is still very useful. And also, in the medical field, it has brought many benefits, as some examinations and surgical operations are no longer as they used to be.
In the workplace, it has been very noticeably beneficial. Some manufacturing tasks no longer take up so much time and man-hours. Although this has brought some reductions in jobs, it has also meant a better utilisation of raw materials and use of time. Also, on the digital side there are many tools that simplify the work and with impeccable quality.
On the other hand, there are certain disadvantages in these two aspects, and that is why I mention them together. I think that these facilities and optimisation of processes have made some people create a distorted view of themselves. Yes, I am talking about the attitude and ethics of those who employ artificial intelligence to do paid work, especially freelance work.
I am specifically referring to those who have boosted their ego and self-concept based on the product they are delivering to their clients, made with artificial intelligence. Not all have recognised that they are authors to some extent, leading them to believe and project that they can take all the credit. That misconception is transcending into the way they treat others, as the way they speak and behave shows signs of arrogance and arrogance.
We all have good things and not so good things. It seems unfair to lump a person with a cold label. I am in favour of getting to know everyone better, and thus discovering the good in them, even if it is not so easy at first glance. So I had the opportunity to get close to a couple of them, of people who seem to be getting off the ground with what they are doing with artificial intelligence. You can't see the hearts, but it's sobering to get closer and see the problem is even bigger than it looks. Obviously, you see good things as well, so we try to highlight those.
But, I think that might be one of the main disadvantages for those who regularly use artificial intelligence for personal and work purposes: exaggerating their self-worth and self-esteem for what they are achieving thanks to artificial intelligence, coming to believe that they are better than others. Pride, presumption and arrogance are very damaging in the family, in the neighbourhood and at work. It would be difficult to have more such people.
Finally, in the educational field, it has also been useful for this technology to collect information of interest to us in order for us to learn more about a certain subject. More and more people seem to be learning to use it as a tool to help them know what they want and form their own judgement.
However, I think of schools and those teachers who have to evaluate the written work that students submit supposedly prepared by them: how can they know that what is written on that paper was really prepared by the student and not by an artificial intelligence? Therefore, I believe that now more than ever there is a growing need for oral assessments, debates and presentations where the student shows not only what he/she knows, but how he/she applies it to the area he/she is studying. There is a need to know more about the opinion and criteria that is being acquired with what they supposedly researched and delivered. I am not sure if this is already applied in those places, but I think it is very important. But it would be catastrophic if this tool is used at this level just to pass subjects and the student is not really learning. Can you imagine a surgeon who has used artificial intelligence improperly and is not fully prepared to practice his profession?
In conclusion, artificial intelligence can have serious internal repercussions, for each individual. I focused on their attitudes, ethics, judgement and academic preparation. Therefore, perhaps the greatest danger is not that we will be dominated by machines, but that they will begin to dominate my mind and heart.
Algunos comparan la inteligencia artificial como un niño al que hay que ir dándole información para que vaya creando su propio criterio y tome sus propias decisiones. Que loco que siempre se ha dicho de que no hay un manual rígido para ser un buen padre, pero sí hay cursos para manejar y ayudar al análisis de una inteligencia artificial. Lo cierto es que ella ya convive con nosotros desde hace tiempo. ¿Cuáles son algunas ventajas y desventajas que ha traído? Responderé desde mi limitada óptica. Por favor, acompáñame.
En el campo social, la inteligencia artificial ha traído beneficios notorios. Ha empezado con cosas pequeñas, como la función de autocompletar palabras, los traductores, y aún sigue siendo muy útil. Y también, en el campo de la medicina ha traído muchos beneficios, puesto que algunos exámenes y operaciones quirúrgicas ya no son como antes.
En el ámbito laboral es muy notorio el beneficio que ha traído. Algunas tareas de fabricación ya no ocupan tanto tiempo ni horas hombre. Aunque eso ha traído algunas reducciones en los puestos de trabajo, también implicó un mejor aprovechamiento de la materia prima y el uso del tiempo. También, en la parte digital hay muchas herramientas que simplifican el trabajo y con una calidad impecable.
Por otro lado, hay ciertas desventajas en éstos dos aspectos, y por eso los menciono juntos. Creo que éstas facilidades y optimización de los procesos ha hecho que algunos creen una visión distorsionada de sí mismos. Sí, estoy hablando de la actitud y ética de quien emplea la inteligencia artificial para realizar trabajos remunerados, especialmente de forma independiente.
Me refiero específicamente a aquellos que han aumentado su ego y concepto de sí mismo basándose en el producto que están entregando a sus clientes, hecho con la inteligencia artificial. No todos han reconocido que son autores hasta cierto punto, llevándolos a creer y proyectar de que pueden llevarse todo el crédito. Esa idea equivocada está trascendiendo a la forma en la que tratan a los demás, puesto que su forma de hablar y comportarse da señales de arrogancia y prepotencia.
Todos tenemos cosas buenas y cosas no tan buenas. Parece injusto englobar a una persona con una fría etiqueta. Soy partidario de conocer más a cada uno, y así descubrir lo bueno en ellos, aunque no sea tan sencillo a primera vista. De modo que tuve la oportunidad de acercarme a un par de ellos, de personas que parecen estar despegándose del piso por lo que están haciendo con la inteligencia artificial. No se pueden ver los corazones, pero da qué pensar acercarse más y ver el problema que es aún mayor de lo que parece. Obviamente, también se ven cosas buenas, así que intentamos resaltar esas.
Pero, creo que esa podría ser una de las principales desventajas para quien usa regularmente la inteligencia artificial para fines personales y laborales: exagerar su valía y estimación propia por lo que está logrando gracias a la inteligencia artificial, llegando a creerse mejores que los demás. El orgullo, la presunción y la arrogancia son muy perjudiciales en la familia, el vecindario y el trabajo. Sería difícil tener más personas así.
Por último, en el campo educativo también ha resultado útil que ésta tecnología recabe información de interés para que conozcamos mejor cierto tema. Cada vez parece que hay más personas que aprenden a usarlo y una herramienta que les ayuda a saber lo que desean y formar su propio criterio.
Sin embargo, pienso en los planteles educativos y en aquellos profesores que tienen que evaluar el trabajo escrito que los estudiantes presentan supuestamente preparados por ellos. ¿Cómo pueden saber que lo escrito en ese papel fue realmente preparado por el estudiante y no por una inteligencia artificial? Por eso, creo que ahora más que nunca está creciendo la necesidad de evaluaciones orales, debates y exposiciones donde el estudiante muestre no sólo lo que sabe, sino cómo lo aplica en el área que está estudiando. Se necesita conocer más la opinión y criterio que se está adquiriendo con lo que supuestamente investigó y entregó. No estoy seguro si ésto ya se aplica en esos lugares, pero creo que es muy importante. Pero sería catastrófico que ésta herramienta se usara en éste nivel solo para aprobar materias y que el estudiante no esté aprendiendo realmente. ¿Se imaginan un cirujano que haya usado la inteligencia artificial de forma impropia y no esté completamente preparado para ejercer su profesión?
En conclusión, la inteligencia artificial puede tener serias repercusiones internas, en cada individuo. Me centré en sus actitudes, ética, criterio y preparación académica. Por ende, tal vez, el mayor peligro no es que nos dominen las máquinas, sino que empiecen dominando mi mente y corazón.
