Sometimes, I laugh before telling people where I live because I know they will be confused, especially Ghanaians. I live in Takoradi, a town found in Takoradi. Ahaaa, the confusion has begun right?. Well, it’s like that in Ghana. There’s Accra in Accra, there’s Kumasi in Kumasi and there’s Takoradi in Takoradi and most Ghanaians don’t even know that.
For some reason, the city’s name is also given the busiest town in the city if that makes sense. Okay now that the confusion is cleared…Let me get to it.
Unlike Accra-Ghana, Takoradi is a whole different world on its own. I like the fact that I was born in Takoradi more than anything else. I remember a time where anytime I was asked what’s that one thing I’m proud of, I say the fact that I was born in Takoradi, haha. Takoradi people are different. They know how life can get so they play a lot sometimes to keep their sanity intact. Their way of life is different. Takoradi is just about 10 minutes drive from home and anytime I go to town(Takoradi), it’s a whole different vibe.
Where I stay, everyone is just always so serious and drained which kind of affects us in general but when you go to Takoradi, you will barely see a sad person on the streets. Everyone is always just happy. They have this term they normally use: happy yourself because someone somewhere wishes they could be you. Sometimes when I feel drained I just go to Takoradi to breathe. Just the ambience will reset life for you. The highlight of Takoradi are the beaches.
There’s just something about Takoradi beaches that makes you feel you’re somewhere in Jamaica or Bali for vacation. The rate at which I go to the beach is unhealthy. My friends used to ask if I was a mermaid in my previous life. There’s just something about Takoradi beaches that makes you feel there’s no problem in life. You might be saying but that’s a normal thing for beaches. Well, I disagree because unlike other beaches in Ghana, Takoradi beaches are clean.
My favorite beach in Takoradi is last hour beach. Yeah, that’s the name. I already told you Takoradi people are different so dont be suprised at the name of the beach. I’m not sure what exactly it means but I think it has something to do with the fact that you can come there last minute and anytime because it’s always opened.
My vicinity is a very quiet place and I I love each and every part of the quietness but sometimes it gets a little depressing being here unlike Takoradi. There are times you go to Takoradi to meet a whole carnival happening for no reason and no, it’s not a special event or day. They could just wake up one day and say we’re dancing today and they will do it. Honestly, I love it. Life is not that deep and we need to make as many memories as we can.
As I’m talking to you now, I’m on my way to Takoradi to just have a fresh breath of Takoradi and probably visit the beach and come back home. After all, it’s just 10 minutes drive from home.
