During my childhood days, I was the snitch amongst my siblings. It was a 9 - 5 job which earned me a lot of favours and gifts from my parents. I mean we were all stubborn and we used to plan all the stubborn agenda together but along the line, they started leaving me out of the plans. I won’t even lie, I was really hurt so I started reporting them to my parents.
I remember how I bought a whole notebook to write everything down so I wouldn’t even forget anything when it was time for me to report them. That was how I had my first encounter with a phone. My dad left a phone at home for my snitching career and he made sure to load it with so much airtime.
The first time I used it to call my dad, I was going to inform him about how my second brother was doing exactly what he told us not to do. After speaking to him, I was so surprised. I didn’t understand how he could speak to me through that tiny “thing”. I handled the phone with so much care because I thought my dad automatically entered phone anytime I called him. Don’t laugh, I was a kid.
There was this particular day, I called my dad and he said he was driving so he was going to call me back. I was so shocked the whole day. I knew he entered the phone to speak to me anytime I called him but I didn’t know he could enter with his car too. After that call, my brother tried snatching the phone from me and it fell down which made me so angry.
To me, it meant our dad had also fallen down. I literally stayed in front of the gate the whole evening, waiting for him just to make sure he was okay. When he came home that day, I bombarded him with a lot of questions that made him laugh a lot. But of course, he explained everything to my understanding that day. It was the same with computers too. I didn’t understand where the games we played came from. It was even funny with Zuma.
Anytime I asked my brothers to turn on the PC for me to play Zuma, they would tell me they hadn’t loaded more balls at the back of the monitor so I would have to wait. This lie made me think the games I saw on the screen were right behind the monitor but anytime I checked behind the monitor, I saw nothing. Now you understand why my brothers deserved each and everyone of those snitching?
Thinking about the kind of phones and computers we used to have during those times makes me realize how much technology has evolved. Imagine I could make video calls that time with that keypad phone, ahh my career would have really bloomed because I would have snitched with evidence.
