If someone told me I would be writing about iOS someday, I would have asked him to move on to the next joke. I’m not a huge fan of iOS in anyway, I use it because of its efficiency. One of the things that annoys me about using iOS is the updates. Every 3 to 5 working days, there’s a new software update.
It’s just annoying how you could spend about 5gb data on updating your phone and the only new thing you see is a new emoji. No bug fixes, no nothing. Sometimes I feel like the person in charge of releasing updates just do it for fun.
Anyway, I could write a whole book about how much I hate iOS updates but I want to show you all something cool I got from one mysterious update which happened sometime back. Mysterious because I don’t remember doing it myself and can’t account for how it even happened in the first place.
I’m going to start with the standby feature. I didn’t even know it existed until one particular night. Normally, my phone’s screensaver shows when it senses me but that night, I saw a bedside clock. The moment I turned my phone vertically, it went away. It was so cool to me that I spent hours trying to figure out how to bring it back.
I got to later find out that it was a smart display feature which came with an update. Its function is to basically act as a bedside clock and display other information while charging. It also only happens when your phone is positioned on its side.
The other cool thing that I’ve been itching to talk about is the journal app. The journal app is a way upgraded version of the notes app. I think it’s one of the smartest apps that came with the update. Apart from allowing you to write about your day, it gives you prompts. Yes, you heard right.
The app gives you reflections to write about, covering all the nitty gritty you probably would forget about. It could even be set to bring you prompts according to your gallery, your music and other activities on your phone. Maybe I would make a full review on the app one of these days.
Oh and before I forget, the bedside clock is available on iOS 17 and the journal app is available on iOS 17.2. My current iOS version is 17.7 and I have no idea how I even got there but one thing I know is how glad I am that I have the journal app. But will I start updating my phone now? No please.
