It really hurts me to talk about this because I’m not a fan of politics at all. I’m very oblivious when it comes to the political happenings in the country. I paid a little attention to something happening and I just began to wonder if it has always been like this or it’s now beginning.
Everything started some months ago when a candidate came out to compare our current President to Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Honestly, I thought it was a joke and even if it was a joke, that’s not the kind of joke you make on national television. In case, you don’t know who Dr Nkrumah is, he led Ghana to gain independence. Now, do you get the disrespect? All for what?
There are a lot of amenities that we’re still depending on in this 2024 which were provided way back by Dr Kwame Nkrumah so where from that comparison in the first place? He was summoned by the traditional council to revoke his statement or so but I didn’t even follow up because he didn’t even show any remorse when he was given the chance to take back his statement so what shows he’ll even go there to apologize?
As at now, their campaigns have turned into comedy. Every blessed week, a video about what they said at a campaign circulates. They started by saying they’ll sell phones on credit to the youth so we can be paying in installment, “one cedi, one cedi”. Come on, what level of standup comedy is this? Even Src aspirants in the university like @yahuzah will not make this funny promise.
What broke the camel’s back was how one of the candidates aspiring to be president stated that if the government ( his party) is to undertake all the developmental projects now, what will he do when he comes into power? I literally screamed “aaahhh” after hearing that. Do you understand what this means? Either way, let me give you a breakdown.
He’s aspiring to be president yeah? And his party is in power right now, as in the reigning government. And then, he was able to stand on a national television to tell the whole of Ghana that if this government or his party is to develop Ghana right now, then what exactly will he do if he comes to power? A lot of people have been very angry ever since he made this statement. I know our ancestors are also very angry, turning in their graves at this point.
As usual, the youth has turned it into memes, laughing about it which I think is our defense mechanism because at this point, the country can take your sanity away. It’s rather unfortunate the leaders also see us to be very unserious but then, if being unserious will protect our mental health then so be it. If you try thinking about the economy a little, your brain begins to glitch because eiiii!
Let me just end here because “if I say all that I want to say today, what will I say tomorrow”? (You get it?) With all that these people are doing, anytime you wake up at dawn, make sure you shout “Eii Ghana” before you go back to bed.
