“Don't worry, I will send it to you,” Mrs. Amadi said as she was so happy spending money for Madu.
“Alright, ma, thanks a lot, ma”, Madu replied.
“You are welcome,” Mrs. Amadi answered.
It all happened when Goodluck, Mrs Amadi's only son, gained admission to the university. He was so brilliant and well-behaved. He has manners as he has been trained so well by his mother. Immediately, he accelerated into the university; there was a bent in his character, which he only showed whenever he was on campus.

“Please, you know how your mum always helped me, I would rather not disappoint her. So, I want you to let go of those gangs you are running after. They will only destroy your future instead of repairing it.” Madu, who was a good friend, let out those words from his mouth.
“You, of all people, should know I'm not that person who would run after them. I know the son of who I am, "Madu replied.
After their first year, Madu's results were so superb. He came out to be the best out of everyone in his department. This made his lecturer love him so much. He was later made the class Governor. This gave him some ego and took his real character out of his shell.
The gangs beckoned on Goodluck when he was going to the reading room with Madu. He paused at a time but later saw Madu's look. This made him have a change of mind to follow Madu to the reading room. Madu was way older than Goodluck. This was the reason Goodluck's mum had to keep him under Madu's care, being best of friends.
Since they had been walking together, it was just as if Madu had been depriving Goodluck of some things he was supposed to do.
“Please, Madu, Mr Nathan ask me to see him by 10 AM tomorrow”, Goodluck said.
“For what?” Madu replied.
“I don't know. Maybe for my scores or to put me through something in his course”, Goodluck replied, pretending to be telling the truth.
“Alright, I will go with you.” Madu was not ready to leave his friend as he did not want to go against Goodluck's mum's instructions.
“No need, I will be back in just two hours,” Good Luck replied.
“Please, don't pass through that path. I don't like those boys”, Madu said.
It was the next day that Goodluck decided to leave for the campus as said, but what was in his mind was something different from usual. He took that route purposely because of those gangs. When he got to that point, he saw those same gangs. He had to join them and play with them. He was advised to take oath with them which he did. Likewise, he got initiated that same day.
Madu was not himself when Goodluck left the house. He had to dress up and trace him. He got to that same spot where the gangs always sit, he stylishly peeped through just to observe that Goodluck was there. After some time of peeping, he saw Goodluck. He rushed to meet with him and drew him out of the gangs.
“Is this the reason you lied?” Madu asked.
“I'm sorry, bro. I was going to see the lecturer, but …”
Before he landed, Madu continued, “But you had to branch just because of the interest you had in this group, right?”
“Please, it's not what you think,” Good Luck said, pretending to be Saint.
“I think I have to call your mum and relate what you are doing in the school “, Madu said.
“Please, don't do that. You know what my mom will do to me if she hears this," Goodluck replied.
“That's the major reason I must tell her, just for you to stop this nonsense,” Madu objected.
“OK, I will pay for everything you have to pay in the school. I mean both your school fees”, Goodluck tried to bribe his friend.
Hearing this, Madu has nothing to say any longer.
“So you mean what you just said?” Madu asked
“Don't worry, let me show you now.” Good luck transferring Madu's school fees to Madu's account immediately.
He was short of words and refused to let the cat out of the bag.
A few months later, Goodluck became a tyrant in the midst of the gangs. He was made their leader as he was spending money to buy all the gangsters anything of their choices.
When the result of the second-semester exam came up, Goodluck was not among the top 10. He had dropped drastically. Even the lecturers were surprised to see his character changing so fast.
One fateful day, Goodluck's mum had to put a call through to Madu and ask for the well-being of her son. “How is my son, your friend, doing? You know he's under your care.”
It took Madu minutes to answer Goodluck's mom, as he had been bribed by Goodluck.
“He's fine, Ma'am, and doing so great”, Madu lied to Goodluck's mum.
“I will send you that money you asked for by noon,” Goodluck's mum said.
“Alright, ma, thanks a lot, ma'am, "Madu replied, but his conscience would not let him remain free.
“Good luck; you have to stop this nonsense you are doing. Your mum called asking for your welfare, but I had to lie, which was something I have not done in my life”, Madu said.
“You have done so well. I will send you a handsome reward for that acting”, Goodluck said.
“I don't need it anymore. I'm feeling guilty. Your mum handed you over to me to take care of, and now I have accepted your bribe just to destroy your life? I can't take this anymore “, Madu said.
“I know you can't say a word to my mum because I will tell her about the money I bribed you with.” Good luck threatened him.
Madu kept quiet after hearing those words.
Goodluck’s case was becoming worse than before.
Three weeks later, Madu had to call Goodluck's mum.
“Please, ma'am, you just have to forgive me. I have disappointed you”, Madu was weeping while on the call.
“Speak up, son”, Goodluck's mum replied.
“I'm afraid of saying a word," Madu said.
“Is my son alright?” She asked.
“He's alright, ma, bu…… .t”, it took Madu time to respond.
“But what?” Goodluck's mom replied.
“I have failed you, ma,” Madu said.
“Speak up because I have not seen where you have failed me,” she replied.
“Goodluck joined some bad gangs, which made his grade drop drastically. I was so greedy that I failed to inform you. He paid me not to tell you a word," Madu confessed.
“And you accepted the money, forgetting that I have always attended to you when it comes to money issues?” Goodluck's mom said.
“Please forgive me. I have to call you just to free that load from my heart, Madu apologized.
“Don't let him know you told me. I will call him to tell him that something terrible has happened. Then follow him when he's coming," Goodluck's mom said.
"Alright, ma, I will do as instructed," Madu replied.
“As for you, it's good that you speak up; I forgive you.”
“Thanks, ma”.
They got home, and Goodluck's mom had to stop him from going to that school and cut him off from sending him money weekly. Although it was challenging to stop, Goodluck finally stopped his newly found habit since he had changed to a new school. Madu had to continue with that same initial school.
