Winter League Golf is back

It's that time of year again on the golf course when the Winter league starts back again. It usually means that the weather has gone to shite and the Christmas is around the corner. True on both counts.

Below is my first round score for my Winter League team "The Eagles have landed" it's 2 shots worse than par, but still not the worse all things considered with 5 pars, 6 bogeys, 1 double bogey and one triple bogey.

I haven't posted on Sport talk Social in a while, so here I am to see who is still knocking around this community.

I could have posted about loads of different sports here, as I like almost every sport to be honest. I've opted for the one that I play the most regularly and that's golf. Let's talk about my golf handicap firstly.

Ok, just in case anyone is rubbing their chin now asking what the hell is a golf handicap!?

I don't believe in reinventing the wheel, so I'll borrow this definition from https://www.golfzonleadbetter.com/uncategorized/understanding-golf-handicaps-what-is-a-golf-handicap-how-does-handicap-work-in-golf-and-how-to-get-one/#:~:text=A%20golf%20handicap%20is%20a,compete%20fairly%20against%20each%20other.

"A golf handicap is a numerical measure of a golfer’s playing ability that allows players of different skill levels to compete on an equitable basis. Basically, it’s a way to level the playing field in golf, enabling golfers of varying levels of skill to compete fairly against each other."

Ok, so now that we know a golf handicap is, let's have a look at mine. Bear in mind that a Pro golfer will have a handicap of 0 or +1 to +6 approximately.

I'm playing of 14.3, so let's put it in perspective now. Rory McIlroy is +6.3 so if Rory and I teed it up on any golf course, he would start off on a score of +20 and I'd start on Even par and it should be a fairly even contest with either one of us capable of winning.

If i equalled my personal best 82, McIlroy would need to shoot 61 to beat me and if he shot his Personal best of 61 equalling his Wells Fargo Championship effortin 2015, I'd need to shoot 80 to beat him, so it sounds pretty fair and proves that it's a good system.

So who would win??

I reckon on normal Irish golf courses, on a good day I could take him, however on tour standard courses like Augusta for example I'd struggle, mind you he would probably be giving me closer to 25 shots on those harder courses, due to adjustments.

Now here's some photos from around the golf courses of Ireland over recent months.
