Driving is a skill that you either possess inherently or learn over years of being behind the wheel. Some fail to master it no matter how long they've been in the driver's seat. They simply aren't cut out for it.
I have had my driving license for over 15 years now and have never had any major incidents, just some ordinary bumps.
Today, I got stuck on the road connecting my hometown to the city where I go to the gym for an hour. It usually takes me about half an hour to commute, but this afternoon, I spent something like an hour and a half getting back home.
Some drivers didn't maintain a safe distance between themselves and a lorry driving in front of them. When the lorry hit the brakes more aggressively, the two drivers simply bumped into it, resulting in a collision.
The car of the driver that got sandwiched didn't look good at all once it was on the trailer, as you can see from one of the pictures. The airbags blew in his face and probably in the faces of his passengers. I doubt repairing it will be an option since there was too much damage.
It's a shame since both of the SUVs were pretty new, but since both crashed into the lorry's rear, neither of their insurance will cover the expenses for their damage. I guess both of them learned how important it is to maintain a safe distance while driving at speed.
I don't know if there were any victims involved in the crash, but this event certainly cost me over an hour of my precious time.
Luckily, it was warm and sunny while we were waiting for the traffic to clear, and I spent the whole time out of the car taking pictures from where I got stopped.
I wouldn't entirely blame these two drivers for the crash as the poor road infrastructure in this area also plays a role. This is the end result of over thirty years of corrupt governance: bad roads, road rage, accidents, and lots of frustration. This is what you should expect when driving through Romania.
It's time to go out now and enjoy the day. I wish you all a great Friday and a splendid weekend ahead.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
