Maria Taferl is an Austrian market municipality of 872 people in the District of Melk and the most important pilgrimage site in all of Lower Austria. After Mariazell, Maria Taferl is the most important pilgrimage destination in all of Austria.

I feel like a pilgrim for a couple of days or so because I've been to so many religious places here in Austria lately... Even the ones that technically don't seem to be religious have something religious about them. The Catholics sure know how to show their devotion every here and there...

Anyway, this is the last day in this country before my departure tomorrow, and being Sunday and quite sunny outdoors, I did not want to stay in the house. Almost my whole so-called vacation here was accompanied by pretty bad weather, and now that I am close to leaving, we're getting plenty of sun...

Damn, I feel so lucky... So, this basilica/church that I visited today is also located quite close to where my parents live, it's something like 20-30 kilometers away. We did not drive much on the autobahn today, and the place that makes the topic for this post was not the only town/tourist attraction I've been to today.

More to come in some future posts...

Although using the country roads, we did not get as fast as we would have gotten there if we had used the autobahn, I enjoyed the ride. I even made a short footage on the way back that I will share via threespeak probably next week.

There's a quite twisty road leading into the church, and not surprisingly, mostly old men and women were visiting it when we got there. I know, young dudes and gals don't like going to the church. I don't either, but I sure love taking photos, and this place has offered quite some interesting photography subjects to me today.

You could see a good portion of the Danube from there and the mountains in the vicinity. As expected, the Danube is not as wide as it is in my country, Romania, which is the last one on its course before getting into the Black Sea.

Nothing spectacular at the Basilica, to be honest. I liked the ride there, the views, and the fresh air. I still don't understand a thing of what these people (the Austrians) are saying, although I do speak a bit of German... That's about it from my side for now. I wish you all a great Sunday and see you tomorrow.

The old basilicas, churches and cathedrals offer some of the best examples of architecture to be had (and some of the best photo ops as well). I find them quite beautiful and enjoyed the tour. Enjoy your Sunday!

I subscribe to that. Wish you the same!
