Garden Update - Tomatoes (Eng & Spa)

in #homesteading2 years ago

I love tomatoes! I would eat them all year round if I could, but unfortunately in Germany, they are a luxury that we can only enjoy in the summer. Sure, you can get them in the fall and winter too, but they just don't taste the same. That is the reason why we usually try to grow our own tomatoes in our garden.

However this year for reasons that I will not mention in this post, we decided not to plant tomatoes. To our surprise, the tomatoes had another idea in mind. In a section of our garden where I was planning to grow corn, which didn't work out, different kinds of plants began to sprout. This is because the different seeds from the kitchen scraps that we mixed with our Compost began to sprout spontaneously. In the image above you can see a mixture of Tomatoes, Mustard, a type of Wild Potato, Sunflowers, different Herbs, etc.

In the following three images you can see some of the tomato plants that have been resilient and have sprouted in my garden.

In our Terrace - En nuestra terraza

In this photograph you can see one of the first tomato plants that I identified in the garden. Initially, I ignored it, since we had no plans to grow Tomatoes, but seeing that it grew strong and lush, I couldn't ignore it anymore. So I looked for the best pot available, I used the best soil from our Compost and placed it on our sunny Terrace.

On our Terrace it gets the right amount of sun all day, but it's also close to us. That way I can take better care of her. Sure, when the time comes the little tomatoes will be around for a quick harvest.

So far everything has been perfect. So far this plant has already produced about 30 tomatoes, and more are on the way. Below you can appreciate them.

A continuación podrán apreciarlos.

And here are samples of both, so far, flower clusters that will soon produce more tomatoes. I estimate that between the two of them they will also produce about 30 pieces. My mouth is already watering.

I continue to properly fertilize the plant, I make sure it doesn't lack water, but it doesn't have too much either. The plant, as well as the others in the garden, looks healthy and keep on growing. In a few days I will give you another update. Thank you for visiting my blog!

I remember a similar thing with my grandmother, one year she did not plant any new tomatoes, yet still some grew!

Yes! I love it!

I discover a few more yesterday, but too small. I don't think they'll produce anything. But the other will. 🍅🍅🍅🤗

We used to grow them, but the dogs loved them, and stole them from the tomato plants🤣🤣🤣
You are right, they are so tasty though, so enjoy the ones you get😁

The dogs!?!? That's funny!😆

hehe and they were Alaskan Malamutes so very big dogs, acting all petite to gently pull the tomatoes off the plant, they did the same to the strawberries!

Oh noooo! I'm sorry!!! Cute dogs, but too bad for you (and the tomatoes/strawberries).

hehe oh I didn't mind, it was healthy for them🤣

You have saved the wild tomatoe nicely :-)
Well done.
If I read this correctly you are localised in Germany and I would advise you to blog in German.

I guess you are not a naitive German speaker so I would suggest to use deepl.com

Yes, I live in Germany. I knew there is a german speaking community, but didn't know it was so strong. I will give it a try. Thanks for the tip!
