Discipline is part of training and upbringing of children. If there will be no discipline, then we will end up raising taut in the society.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. This saying is from the scripture and it is the right thing to do. When I was very little and also a primary school pupil I hated some teachers because of the way and manner they discipline us back then. But truth be told that kind of discipline made some of us not to misbehave in school and even at home. No matter what we need to have a measure of discipline to our children. That will help keep them in check. But if we join this generation and say that there should not be discipline for kids especially in primary and secondary school, we are planning to have wayward children that will end up bringing shame and disgrace upon the family a d the society at large.

HOW SHOULD A CHILD BE DISCIPLINED?

We don't just discipline a child because we want to discipline, but we must also apply wisdom while we discipline them. Two days ago I went to see someone and when I came back to the house I discovered that my first son wounded his younger brother who happened to be the last son. He was trying to discipline him because he disrespected him. There was blood in his body and when I saw it I called the elder brother and told him never to discipline the child again. I did not say that because I don't want to discipline the child or because I am supporting what he did. I said that because I want to discipline the child by myself. So, I told him to report the child to me anything that the child repeat what he did to him that I will handle that child by myself.

DISCIPLINE IS IN TWO WAYS

  1. Discipline that takes place when you are angry with that child for what he or she did. This type of discipline is what brings problem at the end of the day and you will still bring money to treat the child. When we are still angry with what our children did or our younger ones did, we don't discipline them at that time.
  2. Discuss that takes place hours after that child did something wrong and we have already calm down. Not too angry at this point, we can go ahead and apply the discipline. Most times when I want to discipline my children I will call the child, pray with him, open the bible to show that person that what he did was bad. At that point I can go ahead and discipline. I will do that without any anger on me, but I will still discipline the child. This is the kind of discipline that helps correct a child. The discipline we carry out in anger can't help but bring more salt to the injury.
In conclusion, remember that I said from the beginning that when we keep the rood we spoil the child. So, the rood is very important, but we apply that with wisdom so that we will not end up killing our children with our own hands.
