Hello beautiful friends in this community. Happy weekend to everyone and I wish us all the best things of life. I'm personally glab to participate in this last prompt for the week which talks about my worse experiences with drugs. I have quite a number of them to share. But there is this particular one that gives me concern whenever I think of it.
Though this is not a story about me in person this time, but it is that of someone very close to me. I have watched her reduced to an object of pity because of what drugs did to her
This is a young girl with great ambition for life. I have known her for more than twenty years now. We started relating since she was a very little girl and I watched her grow to a beautiful young lady. But because of the effect of wrong drugs given to her in the hospital she has totally changed and each time I see her, I feel so sorry for her.
I call her my daughter because she is more like a daughter to me. She became sick five years back and she went about it the normal way we African treat ourselves when we are sick. But it got worse by the day and she discovered that it is not what she can handle at home. She headed for the hospital for proper treatment hence her first aid at home did not solve the problem. She was admitted in the hospital and treatment begin. She spent a lot of money, you know how the system works. Once you get to the hospital, you will have to spend your last card and even go to collect loan and give them. After all said and done she discovered that she can't hear people again. She can talk to you and you will hear her very well, but when you respond you will notice that she can't hear you even when you shout. She was taken back to the hospital and a complain was made. Nothing serious was done and at the end of everything that the hospital did she could not hear again. The hospital told her that she had to wait for some period before it her ears will open again. She went home been hopeful , thinking that she will wake up one day and hear what people are saying.
Friends this has been there for the last five years and she have been struggling with her life just that way. Before that incident took place she had suitors who came asking for her hand in marriage. She was still praying about it because it was not just one person. So, she needed to be sure of who is the right person before accepting. After what happened to her all of them ran away and never looked back again. This is how this beautiful young girl is still single now. This is the effect of using the wrong drugs on a patient.
HOW DID IT AFFECT HER?
Sincerely speaking, since this incident took place she have just been a shadow of herself. She can't move around anymore because she cannot communicate with people freely. I myself that use to be very close to her hardly pay her a visit now because she don't even understand me when I am trying to speak to her. Even when she tries to come visit me in some occasions, I just wished she never came because we hardly talk to each other. When I say something I will have to shout and still she can't hear me. When she also tries to talk to me she will so shout thinking that I can't understand her. This is how life has been so difficult for her. And somehow I see her very strong and is still pushing on with life's activities.
In conclusion, I think that medical personnels should be very careful when handling patients because some errors can not be corrected. Some people have died in the hands of doctors and nurses just because of using the wrong drugs on them.
