Stir-Fried Green Beans with Corn and Shrimp, My Simple Dinner Menu

Green beans and corn are the best combination for me!

I don't like vegetables. But, I should!
Vegetables have always been one of the foods I didn't particularly like, as I rarely ate them since I was a child. Despite that, my mother always tried hard to make me like vegetables. This dislike even carried on as I grew up. My aversion to vegetables didn't improve either. However, I don't want this to continue.

After getting married, I started cooking for myself. I can cook anything I like, except for vegetables. However, considering that my husband is someone who likes vegetables, I have to cook and eat vegetables too. Slowly, I am learning to like vegetables. I started with vegetables that don't taste too strange, like green beans.

In the past, I didn't like green beans. For me, it had a texture that was too much like vegetables, making it difficult for me to consume them. If my mother cooked green beans, I would never eat them. Now, I'm trying to cook green beans with a new recipe and adding some ingredients to neutralize their taste. This time, I cooked green beans and corn with shrimp.

THE INGREDIENTS

  • 200 grams Green beans
  • 100 grams Corn kernels
  • 100 grams Shrimp (I use frozen cooked shrimp)
  • 3 cloves Garlic, chopped
  • 1 clove of red onion, sliced
  • 2 pieces of chili (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 100 ml water

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

Cut the green beans and shuck the corn

Cut the green beans diagonally, making them easier to eat later. Shuck half of the corn and wash both.

Prepare the Ingredients

Peel the garlic and onion, wash them with the chili. Then slice the onion and chili. Don't forget to finely chop the garlic.

Sauté the Ingredients

Heat a little oil in a pan, then add the onion and garlic. Sauté until fragrant, then add the chili. Sauté again until the chili wilts.

Add the Corn

Add the washed shucked corn and sauté until it slightly wilts. Corn is added first because it takes longer to cook than green beans.

Add green beans and shrimp

Next, put the green beans into a frying pan and sauté them together with the corn. Then, add the frozen cooked shrimp. Don't forget to add oyster sauce, soy sauce, pepper, and salt. Sauté them for 2 minutes and taste the flavor.

Serve and enjoy

Stir-fried green beans, corn, and shrimp are ready to be served. You can have it with warm rice as a simple dinner menu or add it as a side dish with other dishes.

This is one of the dishes that I like and can eat because the sweetness of the corn and the savory taste of shrimp balance out the flavor of the green beans. So, I can finish it even though I don't really like vegetables.

Well, you can also try this simple menu at home!
