Attention is the greatest currency in the reality we live in today. People literally get rich as they manage to attract the attention of consumers on the internet, and this is just one example of the power of attention. Because yes, attention is a power, but it is definitely not a power that has been used consciously.
How much full attention do we give to things that don't matter and don't add real value to our lives? Unfortunately, the answer to that question is: too much. We give too much attention to external things, to situations that are beyond our control, and we forget to focus on what is most important: ourselves.
The practice of mindfulness brings us inward, and from within we can see life in a more realistic and peaceful way. Because when we are focused on the beats of our hearts, on our breathing, on the sounds of the world around us, everything becomes clear without necessarily thinking. In those moments, we live in the present, and that is the best way to live.
Mindfulness practice has taught me a lot throughout my life about reality and how my perspectives on situations become more positive when I am centered, seeing the world from the inside out, and how the world's influences affect my emotions. I use mindfulness as an extension of Stoic philosophy, which I try to practice regularly because I believe it is a good philosophy for facing life and its uncertainties.
But I would say that the most important thing about being aware of oneself and attentive to life around is the ability to make decisions calmly and not impulsively, which makes it easier to live a minimalist and conscious life. I believe that being a minimalist is a choice we make every day until that choice turns into a habit.
