Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. Thus, today, I will take us round the globe to have a look at some of such historical events that took place on this day, friday the 30/8/2024 in history.

We begin today from Afghanistan - the Afghan war. Do you know that on this day in 2021, following a disorderly departure, the final US forces left Afghanistan, seven years after the war had officially ended.

From Afghanistan, we move over to the old USSR. On this day in 1918, Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin was shot twice in an unsuccessful assassination attempt.

From the Soviet Union, we move over to the world of astraunauts and cosmonauts. Now, on this day in 1983, US astronaut Guion S. Bluford, Jr. became the first African American to travel into space, acting as a mission specialist aboard the shuttle orbiter Challenger. He later flew on three more missions.

From the world of astraunauts and cosmonauts, we move over to Belarus. On this day in 1954, Alexander Lukashenko, a Belarusian politician who advocated communist ideology and was elected President of the Belarus in 1994 was born in Kopys, Vitebsk oblast, Belorussia, U.S.S.R. [now in Belarus]. Happy birthday 🎈 🎂 to him.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Iran. Do you know that on this day in 1933, Mohammad Ali Rajaʾi, an Iranian politician who was Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran from 1980 to 1981 was born in Qazvīn, Iran.
