New Strings For the Electric Baritone Ukulele

in #music3 years ago

Hello, hivers and musicians!

I didn't quite know which community I should post this in, so I ended up just putting it on my page.

A couple of months ago, I wrote a post about changing the pickup in my electric baritone ukulele. It's basically a short scale 4 string electric guitar. You can read that post here if you're interested.

After I replaced the pickup, I bought a new set of strings for the instrument. I had read on the internet in several places that if you want to maintain a certain tension on a guitar string at a certain note tuning, the shorter the scale, the heavier the gauge you need. My electric baritone ukulele has a 23 inch scale, instead of the 24 to 25 and a half inch scale of the average electric guitar. I decided to buy heavier gauge strings for my instrument and found a set made by Ernie Ball, called "Not Even Slinky". These strings were designed as "optimal for detuning", basically for drop D tuning and other dropped tunings on electric guitars.

Once I had the strings, I decided to try an experiment with my instrument. Since the standard tuning on a baritone ukulele is D, G ,B, and A, I wondered what it would sound like if I tuned it an octave down from the regular tuning. I made a short video to demonstrate the results of that experiment. These strings are huge!

I still need to find out what the guitar sounds like with distortion. I finally got around to fixing my old Rat distortion pedal, so I'll have to mess around with that and see what kind of sound I can get from the guitar with the Rat pedal. If it works out, I'll make another video for that.

That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!

My baritone uke is acoustic.

I actually have 2 acoustic baritone ukes, a Pono and a Cordoba. I bought the Cordoba first, about 3 years ago. I started with a Lanikai tenor, but after getting the Cordoba baritone, I almost never played the tenor anymore.

This is happening whether you believe it or not. https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism

Excellent job you've done there. The electric version of your ukelele has a nice ring to it! Not sure what I prefer, the original acoustic one, or the electrical one. I tend to go with the latter, though I always like acoustic sounds as well. That said, I also like to deeper and lower sounds a lot, which the electrical one is delivering! Nice one :)

Thank you!
