Harverting Cocoa Fruits And Sugarcane

A harvest activity that reminds me of my beautiful childhood.

This time, I will invite you to harvest fruit that is currently difficult to find in people's homes. So this is a pleasant nostalgia. 😊❤️❤️❤️

Cocoa fruit, used to be widely planted in the yards of houses in our village. Also, because there has been a reduction in free land and only space for houses. Now, cocoa fruit is mostly planted on plantations.

Interestingly, with the drastic reduction in the number of cocoa plants in our area, the price of cocoa beans has become expensive today. Above $6 per kg.




This time, I visited my uncle's house in another province. I was very happy, my uncle's house still had a large backyard garden. There are several plants there, especially cocoa plants and sugar cane plants.

I am very happy to be able to see cocoa plants and sugar cane plants in my uncle's garden again. Let's see together.

First, I harvest sugar cane. This sugar cane tastes very sweet. I took this sugar cane that was not too old so that the sugar cane stalks were not hard when bitten.

Before eating, cut the sugar cane into pieces per segment. Then, peel the skin of the sugar cane. After the sugar cane is peeled, then the sugar cane is cut into smaller pieces to form sticks.

Sugar cane sticks have a crunchy texture, and also taste sweet and refreshing! This is perfect to enjoy when the weather is hot.

This sugar cane plant is also hard to find in my village. Meanwhile, in the market, it is sold in the form of sugar cane drinks that have been processed using a sugar cane squeezing machine.

Next, I harvest cocoa fruit. There are many ripe cocoa fruits on the tree. But I only harvest a few cocoa fruits because that's what I can reach with a bench.

When I was little, I used cocoa fruit as a snack. The taste of the white cocoa flesh is sweet and slightly sour.

After we eat the cocoa fruit flesh, the cocoa beans are dried. After the cocoa beans are dry, they can be sold.

Those pieces of sugar cane remind me of how my grandmother used to put the peeled pieces in a little bag for my snack at school. And in another little bag some slices of bread with guava paste. This was fun to see and read. I have never seen a real cocoa tree or sugar cane, but the sugar cane I am a little familiar with. Sometimes some people grow a tiny bit in their yard and remember when they were children and were given a stick of it to eat. That was back when there were not so many sweets everywhere.

I know that must have been fun to visit harvest a few pieces from your Uncle's garden.

It's actually been a long time since I last had sugarcane. I remember I can only have that when pops and mama will bring some for us. And it's really cool when you have them in your garden or ig you have a farm of it, same with cocoa. So cocoa is that expensive there. With how much work you have to do before making it as a chocolate, I think I understand why it is that expensive.

Maybe you can find somewhere in the future. It nice to eat sugarcane stick as a crunchy snack :)

I miss harvesting cocoa fruit or we usually call it cacao here. My father planted this fruit before, we cover it with plastic when the fruit grow a little and then if it is ripe we harvest and eat it. We then keep the seeds, wash it, cook it and then grind and then form into a tablea which we used to make champorado.

I seldom seen cacao tree this time, even in my father's garden some died and others are being cut down.

These days, dried cocoa seeds are expensive. So, it could really help the family economy if you had cacao plantations there :)
