Hey everyone today I want to share my first-ever acrylic painting experience. So this year I got the chance to attend one of the biggest college fest of India, the Spring fest of IIT Kharagpur. I went there with 6 other friends. It was a 4-day event and we arrived here on day 3. On day 3 there were a few art competitions and workshops like face painting, and fine arts workshops that day but I was too tired to attend them.
On day 4 there was again a painting workshop on the schedule, Which I didn't want to miss. None of my friends was interested in that so I went there alone. It was organised in the Raman auditorium.
(I arrived a bit early)
After some time few people joined in, and then after waiting some 20 minutes our instructor came. we were provided with materials from the organisers only.
we were provided with a sheet, a new pack of acrylic colour, a colour pellet, masking tape, sponge pieces and a glass of water. then our instructor gave some information about acrylic colour and finger painting. we were told to make drawing only using our fingerprints mainly our thumbs. He told us to start making impressions and then think about what to do, just take the colour we like and start making impressions with the thumb. So blue being my favourite colour I started with blue. after putting some blue colours in a tree came in my mind, I then decide to make a field with a tree in the spring season as trees and ground look very colourful during spring.
The scene which I imagined was way too much detailed like the ground would be smooth and I would show leaves falling from trees and also on the ground but by this time I realised it was not possible for me to make such details. then I coloured the background with red mixed with white to give a orangish sky. But struggled to show the boundary between the leaves and the sky.
This is the final version since I was not able to show the separation between the sky and the leaves I added yellow to the tree. and our instructor told that the blue bark was looking very boring compared to the colourful leaves and sky. so I coloured the bark red and white but couldn't execute it well. added river and cloud because putting colours with finger was too fun 😗. I made this in 1 hour. after that everyone showed their work.
So these are what everyone made, except 2,3 people no one had used acrylic paint before. As for me, I liked the idea of painting from thumb and not thinking too much about it. For someone like me who goes for perfection, this was such a nice experience. As someone who makes a lot of portraits, one develops a habit to make every little detail perfect and take their time. This was totally different at first I thought about a lot of detail but was not able to execute a lot of them so I just went with the flow. So how is it?
