Good morning everyone. This Saturday we spent it sorting things out at home, and at the end of the day no one wanted to go out anywhere, the best option was to stay at home and enjoy a good movie. So after dinner, we settled in front of the screen and looked for the recommendations of the Netflix portal, where they released a very nice film, which I had already heard. It is the movie “Gifted” (its title in USA) or “Un don excepcional” (in Latin America).
Gifted is an American film of dramatic genre that was released in 2017, and stars actor Chris Evans, remember him? Our hunky Captain America. Evans portrays the role of Frank Adler, Mary's uncle; little Mckenna Grace as Mary Adler, the gifted child; Lindsay Duncan in the role of Evelyn Adler, Mary's grandmother; Jenny Slate as Bonnie Stevenson, Mary's teacher and later Uncle Frank's girlfriend; and Octavia Spencer in the role of Roberta Taylor, Frank's neighbor who took care of Mary.

What is Gifted about?
This story is based on a girl who has exceptional characteristics in her mathematical knowledge. For her age, which corresponds to the first grade of the basic school stage, she already has the skills of a high IQ college student, and her teacher noticing this, became more integrated into her life, and therefore, also into Frank's life.
Mary, our little genius, lives with her uncle Frank, her mother's brother, who was also a child genius and who committed suicide after having her, because of the pressure she was subjected to by her mother. Before she died, she asked Frank that only he should take care of her daughter, and she left him many other recommendations that gradually came to light.
Evelyn, Mary's grandmother, initiated a legal suit against her son Frank, to take custody of her granddaughter and exploit her in the same way she did with her mother. In the midst of a complex trial, little Mary was placed in a foster home that adopted her while her situation was being resolved, and thanks to the girl's teacher, Frank realized that it had all been a plot with the adoptive couple to pass the child into the hands of the grandmother.

My opinion of the story
One of the main reflections that this film left me with is that the formation of our children depends more on actions than words, although both should be merged in this delicate process.
It also teaches us parents that children grow and acquire attitudes and aptitudes according to their own abilities, not those imposed on them by their parents or relatives in order to take advantage of them. In the case of children who demonstrate abilities above the IQ of average children, we simply have to let them enjoy that endowment at the right time, without exploiting them or taking them away from their basic needs of their age, such as friends, walks, games, and rest.
Gifted left me with a beautiful example of what simplicity and love can provide during the process of formation of our children... luxuries are only an additive that provides comfort, but it is not the basic tool for their growth.

Buenos días a todos. Este sábado lo dedicamos a ordenar cosas en la casa, y al final del día nadie quería salir a ningún lado, la mejor opción era quedarnos en casa y disfrutar una buena película. Así que después de cenar, nos instalamos frente a la pantalla y buscamos las recomendaciones del portal Netflix, donde estrenaban un film muy bonito, que ya había escuchado. Se trata de la película “Gifted” (su título en USA) o “Un don excepcional” (en Latinoamérica).
Gifted es un film estadounidense de género dramático que se estrenó en el año 2017, y está protagonizada por el actor Chris Evans, ¿Lo recuerdan? Nuestro guapísimo Capitán América. Evans representa el papel de Frank Adler, el tío de Mary; la pequeña Mckenna Grace como Mary Adler, la niña superdotada; Lindsay Duncan en el papel de Evelyn Adler, la abuela de Mary; Jenny Slate como Bonnie Stevenson, la maestra de Mary y posteriormente novia del tío Frank; y Octavia Spencer en el papel de Roberta Taylor, la vecina de Frank que cuidaba a Mary.
Image captured from my Netflix subscriptionEste reparto, sinceramente, tuvo la virtud de alcanzar una conexión tan natural en sus respectivos personajes, que nos permitió a los teleaudientes internalizarnos totalmente con el contexto, vivirlo, sentirlo, sorprendernos y hasta llorar con ellos.
¿De qué trata Gifted?
Esta historia se basa en una niña que tiene características excepcionales en sus conocimientos matemáticos. Para su edad, que corresponde al primer grado de la etapa básica escolar, ya ella tiene habilidades de un estudiante universitario de alto coeficiente intelectual, y su maestra al notarlo, se fue integrando más a su vida, y por ende, también a la vida de Frank.
Mary, nuestra pequeña genio, vive con su tío Frank, el hermano de su madre, quien también era una niña genio y que se suicidó después de tenerla, por la presión a la que fue sometida por su madre. Ella antes de morir, le pidió a Frank que sólo él cuidara de su hija, y le dejó muchas recomendaciones más que fueron saliendo a la luz poco a poco.
Evelyn, la abuela de Mary, inició un pleito legal contra su hijo Frank, para quitarle la custodia de su nieta y explotarla de la misma manera que hizo con su madre. En medio de un juicio complejo, la pequeña Mary pasó a un hogar temporal que la adoptó mientras se resolvía su situación, y gracias a la maestra de la niña, Frank se dio cuenta que todo había sido un complot con la pareja adoptiva para pasar a la niña a las manos de la abuela.

Mi opinión de la historia
Una de las principales reflexiones que me dejó esta película, es que la formación de nuestros niños depende más de las acciones que de las palabras, aunque ambas deben fusionarse en este delicado proceso.
También nos enseña a los padres, que los niños van creciendo y adquiriendo actitudes y aptitudes de acuerdo a sus propias capacidades, no a las que les imponen los padres o familiares para sacar algún provecho. En el caso de los niños que demuestran habilidades por encima del coeficiente intelectual de los niños promedio, simplemente hay que dejarlos disfrutar de esa dotación en el momento adecuado, sin explotarlos ni alejarlos de sus necesidades básicas de la edad, como los amigos, los paseos, los juegos, y el descanso.
Gifted me dejó un hermoso ejemplo de lo que la sencillez y el amor pueden brindar durante el proceso de formación de nuestros niños… los lujos son sólo un aditivo que brinda comodidad, más no es la herramienta básica para su crecimiento.
