This weekend, it was Snoopy Jesus' turn for his bath, and it was a battle to get it done. Deep down he still doesn't like this process, but it is necessary to keep him healthy.

After a few minutes of water running over his little body, he adapts and enjoys a little more the feeling of freshness that the warm water rolling over him gives him. I always do it during the hours when it is warmer and the water is at a pleasant temperature for his body, but if not, I tend to prepare a bathtub with warm water so he can relax and enjoy the moment more.

I usually use a good shampoo, I don't use soaps, although there are many good options in the market for bathing our pets. Regarding the presence of animals in their bodies, I never got a product for the bath to guarantee for a long time that those insects were not present in their bodies, sooner or later they returned and bothered them, so by veterinary recommendation I started to use a medicine that is given every 6 months and both Snoopy and the other dogs I had, always remained free of external parasites.

After I finish the bath, I place him in a place where the sun hits him while I dry him with a towel, and he helps me by shaking his little body. A few more minutes in the sun, and then back inside to enjoy his fresh, clean body, a good brushing, and lots of kisses from mommy.

We bathe the kittens less often, it is a little more difficult, but we always make sure that their paw pads are clean, and we regularly wipe their fur with a wet wipe from the ones that come in packages, so that they are cleaner, since they themselves are in charge of keeping their bodies clean using their tongues.

Grooming tips for puppies and kittens

-The bath in puppies can be monthly or every two months, and in kittens it is eventual, when they get dirty, or if they have very long hair, but they themselves are in charge of their grooming and with a good feeding and care, their hygiene will also be maintained.
-It is necessary to brush their wool daily with a special brush for them, because the massage strengthens and relaxes them. For kittens, it avoids knots and eliminates dead hair, and for dogs, it keeps their skin healthy and their coat free of tangles.

-Bath products should be for veterinary use, do not use human products as they can affect their skin.
-Their ears should be carefully cleaned twice a month. Sometimes it is better to leave this job to veterinarians, who always perform grooming sessions for pets in which they clean their ears inside and out, cut their nails, and clean their teeth.
-In order for the kittens to be cleaner, their litter box must be kept clean.
-The cleaning of their eyes of the annoying sponges, is done with a gauze moistened with warm water, or with physiological serum.

Why is grooming important for our pets?

Because to the extent that we keep our pets clean, we are guaranteeing them more protection against infections and diseases such as mange and ehrlichiosis, among others.

Este fin de semana, le tocó su baño a Snoopy Jesús, y fue una batalla para poder hacerlo. En el fondo aún no le agrada ese proceso, pero es necesario para mantenerlo sano.

Después de unos minutos que el agua corre por su cuerpito, se va adaptando y ya disfruta un poco más la sensación de frescura que le proporciona el agua tibiecita rodando por él. Siempre lo hago en las horas donde hay más calor, y el agua viene con una temperatura agradable para su cuerpo, pero si no es así, tiendo a prepararle una tina con agua tibia para que se relaje y disfrute más el momento.

Por lo general, uso un buen champú, no acostumbro usar jabones, aunque en el mercado hay muchas buenas opciones para el baño de nuestras mascotas. Con respecto a la presencia de animalitos en su cuerpo, nunca logré que un producto para el baño les garantizara por tiempo prolongado que esos insectos no estuvieran presentes en su cuerpo, tarde o temprano regresaban y los molestaban, por lo que por recomendación veterinaria comencé a usar un medicamento que se le suministra cada 6 meses y tanto Snoopy, como los demás perritos que tuve, permanecieron siempre libres de parásitos externos.

Después que finalizo el baño, lo ubico en una parte donde le pegue el sol mientras lo seco con una toalla, y él me ayuda sacudiendo su cuerpito. Unos minutos más en el sol, y luego para adentro a disfrutar de su cuerpo fresquecito y limpio, un buen cepillado, y muchos besitos de la mami.

A los gatitos los bañamos menos seguido, es un poco más difícil, pero siempre cuidamos que las almohaditas de sus patas estén limpias, y les pasamos regularmente por su pelaje una toallita húmeda de las que vienen en paquetes, para que estén más aseaditos, ya que ellos mismos se encargan de mantener su cuerpo aseado usando su lengua.

Tips de aseo para perritos y gatitos

-El baño en los perritos puede ser mensual o cada dos meses, y en los gatitos es eventual, cuando se ensucian, o si tienen el pelo muy largo, pero ellos mismos se encargan de su aseo y con una buena alimentación, y cuidados, su higiene también va a mantenerse.
-Hay que cepillar su lana a diario con un cepillo especial para ellos, porque el masaje los fortalece y relaja. A los gatitos les evita nudos y elimina pelo muerto, y a los perros, les mantiene sana su piel y el pelaje libre de enredos.

-Los productos para su baño deben ser de uso veterinario, no usar productos humanos ya que pueden afectar su piel.
-Sus oídos se deben limpiar con mucho cuidado dos veces al mes. A veces es mejor dejarles este trabajo a los veterinarios, que siempre realizan jornadas de aseo para las mascotas en las que limpian sus orejitas por dentro y por fuera, cortan sus uñas, y limpian su dentadura.
-Para que los gatitos estén más aseados, hay que mantener limpio su arenero.
-La limpieza de sus ojos de las molestas lagañas, se hace con una gasa humedecida con agua tibia, o con suero fisiológico.

¿Por qué es importante el aseo en nuestras mascotas?

Porque a la medida que mantenemos aseadas a nuestras mascotas, estamos garantizándoles más protección contra infecciones y enfermedades como la sarna y la ehrlichiosis, entre otras.
