Hey good Morning my beautiful family of @hivelearners hope everyone is doing just great?

It's yet another awesome topic for discussion I will be sharing with us about how mmanwu festival is celebrated.

Well before I get started with the topic, i am from African and my continent is the second largest and the second world most populous continent after Asia africa consisting of 54 countries and more than 1.3billion people with more than 4000 languages.
Wow this is amazing we are well known for our rich cultural and traditional activites celebrated by our citizens in diaspora.

I am from the western part of Africa Nigeria we are called the giant of Africa because we are rich in mineral resources and we are blessed with good soil this means we can afford to feed order neighbouring countries comfortably.

I am from the eastern part of Nigeria we are well known home and abroad for our rich culture and tradition we are also known as the igbo tribe the second largest tribe with 5 state and i am previlaged to come from Abia well known as Gods own state.

I will be sharing with us about one of our biggest cultural festive celebration. (Mmanwn festival).

  • Mmanwn festival this means the masquerade festival. Am sure we all know what a masquerade means if not let me through more light this means a social gathering of persons wearing a mask or oder colourful costume in disguise mostly to act as a spirit. This festival is performed only by the males in exclusive secret societies. This requires a very elaborate and very colourful costume which are ment to invoke ancestral spirit. This display is believed by most people to be the reincarnation of ancient spirit it is a very diabolical display which involves sacrifice of live animals in believe to cleans the land.
This mmanwn festival are accompanied with activities such as drama, dance, and local music.
WelI i enjoy this 3 aspect of the show, thats the drama dance and music. but am not a fan of the violence on women and children even animals.
When this display is going on women and children are meant to stay indoors if seen outside there is a penalty that awaits.
    Them.
However though this function has 'reduced in modern times because of civilization.

Thanks for reading.

Sort:

what if they accidentally get out of the house, will there be any punishment for them?

Lol the will be accidentally punished hahah that's Africans for you.

😄👏🥂

I think they will he punished because the town crier would have announced it days before the festival.

That's ture

This cultural practice is beautiful

Why does the women get to be excluded from many things and they get to face the consequences if violated, though that's Igbo culture for you. But I still love the tribe.

Thanks dear.

Na so we see am lol

Lol

I hope this masquerade in your own part of Igbo land doesn't flog people oo😀

In fact it does worst than just flogging lol

Smiles...

Masquerade festival needs to be observed more often, just that things always tend to get out of hand. If that excess can be curbed, then it will be fun all around.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Thank u for reading my able mod

Masquerade festival is really celebrated in many cultures.
