All I want for Christmas... is Spiced Hot Wine !

in #hive-19491311 months ago

Hello dear Hivers ! How are you doing today ? If there's one thing I'd really have to pick out of all the beautiful things about winter, apart from the bitter cold and leafless trees, it would definitely be hot spiced wine !

It's something that must have come to me from my childhood, and something I must have tasted at that time of year. Indeed, thanks to the cooking process, there's almost no alcohol in this drink and that's perhaps why I was able to drink it when I was quite young.

Well, spoiler alert, this year we've improved the recipe and added rum, so this version isn't for children, but it certainly warms the body, the cheeks and the soul !

The ingredients vary from region to region, but the basic ingredients are still red wine, organic oranges and lemons, and spices such as cinnamon, cloves and ginger.

DSC_2042.JPG

The reason for choosing organic citrus fruit is precisely because it's also the zest that we use to make the mixture. But this year, we're also adding dried orange slices.

DSC_2048.JPG

Cinnamon comes in both powder and stick form, and I generally use a little of each. As for the star anise, there were about ten stars for 4.5 liters of red wine.

As for the ginger, I would have liked to use fresh ginger too, but this year we'll settle for powder, which is already very good !

DSC_2064.JPG

The lemon zest is grated and ready to be added to the mixture.

I'd like to take this opportunity to review the ingredients and proportions. The truth is, it's all very well to look at a recipe, but personally, I always make this on inspiration, a little of everything, but not too much of nothing !

DSC_2067.JPG

Add the wine without splashing it all over, and enjoy the mirror-like surface for a few moments of Zen meditation !

DSC_2069.JPG

Light the fire, not too hot, just enough to bring it to a simmer, and add all the spices and a little sugar. Likewise, you don't want to be too heavy-handed, but it depends on the wine, so it's not too bitter !

DSC_2071.JPG

To finish, add the quartered oranges and leave to infuse for a while, with a little more heat underneath. Of course, as its name suggests, this hot spiced wine is best served and drunk hot !

DSC_2076.JPG

I hope that many of you will want to try this recipe if you've never tried it before! One more point: it's better to prepare this drink for a small group, firstly because it's more convivial, and secondly because you can quickly make too much and you're not going to drink two litres with just two people !

Thank you for your visit and I hope you'll have some experiences to share about this recipe and also some details about how you prepare it :)

Have a good Sunday and see you soon,

<3

Bonjour chers Hivers !

<3

Thank you @phage93 !

Only if I would not have migraines from wine... I would so gladly have a cup or two of this beautifully made spiced hot wine 🍷

In fact, there's almost to no alcohol due to the heating of the wine, but maybe it comes more from the sufilts ?

I don't know, but since yesterday I am with a migraine episode and I didn't drink wine at all 🍷 :(

Ouch ! I hope this episode wasn't too hard and that, by the of this comment, it will be over or so 🤞 !!

Take care dear 😘

It was, unfortunately. Three days disappeared, but since yesterday I am back, into life :D

Merci, @anttn😇

Ouuf ! Gosh it lasted long :(

I know we've already talk about that before, but it would be nice to find a solution..!

Have a sweet weekend in advance 😘

This is really looking good and I’m sure that it will be good for the health

This sure looks good, 😋 I will try out this recipe for myself and for a small group...I am sure it will be very healthy for the body.

Hello! In Italy we have something similar and we call it "Vin brulè", a very special traditional recipe for cold days like these! Thank you for sharing and happy holidays :)

Ah, it must be quite close too..! I will have a look on a traditional recipe of "Vin brulè" :)

Thank you for letting me know and have some sweet holidays as well 😇

We used to make mulled wine at the office before Christmas 😂 Homemade is so much better than the market one as you can use as many spices as you want. Yours look yum! 😍

We used to make mulled wine at the office before Christmas 😂

It must have made for some great evenings haha 😅 !!

I even didn't know that some ready to drink existed, when I learned that from a friend just few months ago, I was shocked 😱 !

Cinnamon AND ginger? This spiced hot wine must be quite spicy! It looks very good and your pictures were nice and clear.

Yeah ! Powerful isn't it 😅 ?

Thank you @restcity !

Look so good!

Santé
