First Visit to the Dourven Headland in a typically Stormy Breton weather

in #hive-163772last year

That's it, after almost six hours on the road, we've arrived in this wild, unspoiled and very wet paradise, as we're only a stone's throw from the sea.

The weather yesterday was very stormy, but you don't go to Brittany to complain about the rain and the weather, which changes with the tides anyway, and there are two of them every day !

After settling into the house for a while and having had our first swim and dinner, we set off on foot to the Headland of Dourven, one of the small capes not far from the village of Locquémeau.

But let's leave this first walk and the images that mark out this exploration, in familiar territory for us who go there every year...!

IMG_8361.JPG

This is the beach of St Kirio, an Irish hermit monk who arrived in the 11th century if I remember correctly and founded a small congregation not far from here. It's not the beach where we go swimming, at least not most of the time.

IMG_8367.JPG

Here comes the family's famous dachshund, leading the way and running so fast that I'm finding it hard to get a better picture of him, or at least a clearer one !

IMG_8373.jpg

IMG_8371.JPG

The area is known for its alignments and the presence of Lambert Cypresses, a characteristic species of tree found mainly in the Côtes-d'Armor region. I love the sovereign, majestic bearing of these trees.

IMG_8372.JPG

This is a view of one of the beacons indicating the waterway in the bay, in this case the Baie de la Vierge. If you go up the estuary and the Léguer river, you arrive in the small town of Lannion.

IMG_8380.JPG

IMG_8374.JPG

We're now on our way to the Dourven headland, where there's a whole series of climbs, staircases and tighter passages like those you can see below.

IMG_8375.JPG

IMG_8377.JPG

The reflections of natural elements in puddles are always an interesting photographic subject... even if I didn't get the chance to dwell on them. You'll also notice that it had started raining again.

IMG_8384.jpg

IMG_8386.jpg

We're almost there and I particularly like this image just above, a double sea, that of the English Channel and the other of ferns. You can see from the intense green that it hasn't been too dry this year. By comparison, at the same time of year, these can be completely scorched !

IMG_8387.jpg

The path that leads us to the Dourven headland...

IMG_8388.JPG

The soil here is acidic, and heather grows wonderfully here, a plant that I use in herbal teas and which is also recommended for urinary tract infections. Fortunately, I don't suffer from that... ^^ !

IMG_8402.jpg

In the distance, on the other side of this small cove, you can see the small village of Locquémeau stretched out along the coast and, as here, caught in the storm.

IMG_8398.jpg

IMG_8403.jpg

The Dourven headland and its cluster of granite rocks.

IMG_8399.JPG

IMG_8404.jpg

IMG_8409.JPG

And here is the hut of the customs officers who at the time made sure that no one landed goods without paying taxes. Just goes to show that France was already a country of taxes of all kinds !

If I could, I'd love to have a simple shack like this, right on the sea, just to come and write, fish and swim.

IMG_8410.JPG

This is the Galerie du Dourven, a place where you can go to see exhibitions that usually last all summer.

IMG_8406.JPG

IMG_8413.jpg

Just beyond is the sumptuous Lambert cypress forest, a truly magical place !

IMG_8415.jpg

And here we are, already on the road back, once again looking at Kirio beach from a different angle...

IMG_8416.jpg

And finally, the little path that leads down to the beach, an image that I find very poetic and serene, don't you think ?

I hope you've enjoyed this first little visit to the area and that it's been of interest to you :) Thank you for your time and see you soon !

PS: I've managed to get a small box so I can get internet in this place where there's hardly any network at all. That's why I can't necessarily reply to all your comments, and I hope you won't take it personally !

The weather looks so familiar, exactly like what we're experience right now.

Have you settled down already? I don't have the energy to go anywhere yet, just want to chill out and not do anything at home

Haha :) This is a huge storm here, hopefully, the house is quite comfy !

Have you settled down already?

You mean in our house in the countryside ? We've done the first move, but we'll continue to live in Paris for sometime.. Until the garden need a full presence ^^

As we're here for only two weeks, I keep my regular bathing and swimming schedule, two the morning and one in the afternoon 😅

I smell the Wood and wet here! Just take care there 🙂

Exactly ! This almost remind me the smell of the jungle :)

Thank you dear @anggreklestari, I hope you're doing well too !

even on a rainy day clearly such a beautiful area to explore and the rain brings out the lovely greens of nature

Thanks for Joining the Wednesday Walk :)

Exactly, I've almost the sentiment that I rather prefer such a weather to enjoy the site and also to take pictures :)

After, to be honest, I don't know someone who don't like the sun hehe !

Thank you dear @tattoodjay, I hope you're doing good 😉

I think one thing that makes St Kiro's Beach special is the fact that the road to it looks beautiful and unique
I've never seen such entrance to a beach
All I've seen is a gate...lol

I completely join you on that ! This little path is such a wonder :)

Take care @rafzat ✌️

I guess sometimes we need to go without wifi to enjoy being in places like this, peace and tranquility,

It's true and here I'm succeeding in experiencing that :) Even the guy from the internet network gave me a small airbox, just that allowing me to write articles and some comments ^^

Have a good Friday and weekend in perspective !

have fun, I am facing the dreaded visit to IKEA, ho hum

Thank you :)

How was this visit ? I hope for the best haha ^^

I actually bought a new chair for the conservatory!

Ah that's nice :)

I would be curious to see which model you picked 😉

There ya go, and very comfy it is too! 😂

IMG_7961.JPG

Haaaa ! This is a nice one :D

It remind me those Hans Wegner armchairs in the style, but those are quite unaffordable haha !

Dachshunds are small but fierce and fast, I love them so much. They are so goofy 🙂

I think this weather reflects the current situation everywhere else in Western Europe. We've been having around 20 degrees for over a week and it keeps raining. My tomatoes will NEVER get red!!! So frustrating! 😂

Enjoy your holidays!

You described them at the perfection hehe ! I really learn to love them and my preference maybe goes to the English ones with the moustache ^^

Mh, I see, but you never know, I think there's a good chance that the second half of the month could be quite sunny.

Did you pick early varieties ?

Thank you dear @delishtreats, I hope you're enjoying yours as well 😉

You're in the wild, man. Watch out for bugs, maybe snakes. I hope you don't encounter any of them, at least not harmful ones. That's a lovely path to the beach.

Definitely, after and hopefully, the house is strong and well built !

I wonder if there are snakes here, maybe more some little ticks hehe ^^

Thank you dear @incublus, I hope you're doing fine 😉
