I don't know what happened to Silver Mamma Chef this morning when she stepped into her Kitchen.
All hell broke loose, oh my word... it sounded like fire works were set off.
Sculptures in back ground done by Peter Wink (Aka) Papa Chef.
It all started with the coffee grinder that didn't want to work any more.
Silver Mamma Chef put the coffee beans in the grinder to make coffee for her and Papa Chef like she normally does at 5.30am in the morning.
She pressed the button waiting for the grinder to do it's job, nothing happened, adjusting the plug and wriggling the cord.
No...it wasn't going to budge.
Silver Mamma Chef noticed the little lip on the lid, that activates the grinder had broken off.
Her heart sank... what on earth was she going to do now, she had to have her cup of coffee...then suddenly she got this bright idea when she saw the box of matches next to the stove, taking one from the box and cutting it in half with the kitchen scissors, she stuck it in the activator, pressing it down to see if it would work.
Omg, for sh#@ sake...the next minute all the beans shot out of the grinder like bullets in a firing squad, hitting her in the face and all over, almost knocking her off her feet, even the poor dogs left the kitchen to hide under the braai area, wondering what the hell is going on with Silver Mamma Chef this morning.
Yes...Silver Mamma Chef forgot to cover the beans with the lid.
After all the commotion, Papa Chef came to the rescue as usual, he calmly took the lid from her and disappeared into the garage, where he glued the broken piece back on and had it working in no time.
Silver Mamma Chef breathed a sigh of relief, she couldn't bare the thought of going without her cup of coffee to start the day.
"Mmmm" little did she know. Hehe!
Oh boy!...Silver Mamma Chef had no idea what she was instore for, when Papa Chef came home with a bag of Beetroot from the local green grocers.
Well!...Silver Mamma Chef thought, seeing that there's such a lot of Beetroot, she'd attempt to make some Beetroot Jam and Chutney.
Silver Mamma Chef was quite enthusiastic about making this Beetroot Jam and Chutney, she hadn't made it before, so checked out a few recipes on YouTube, but didn't write it down as usual, she thought it was very easy and effortless enough to go ahead, and do it "her way".
She put her "Shark" Apron on, then began gathering her kitchen utensils, choosing one of her big favorite pots and filled it with water, then put it on the stove to cook the Beetroot.
She thought she'd start with making the Beetroot Jam, then do the chutney last.

Silver Mamma chef's kitchen started buzzing, she was feeling very industrious today, tinkering around in her happy place, the Kitchen.
She merrily peeled the cooked beetroot, cut it in pieces then put it in the blender to make a puree, adding a little of the beetroot juice from the pot.
She squeezed two lemons to add to the jam mixture, everything was going very well so far.
Silver Mamma Chef was smiling from ear to ear, quite happy with her progress.
She put the pot of puree on medium heat, then added the lemon juice and two cups of sugar, and started stirring.
Oh my dear heart:
That's when things went haywire..."Oh Glory Hallelujah", the contents of the pot started bubbling, shooting beetroot every where, making graffiti on the walls above the stove, and once again, Silver Mamma Chef was shot all over, this time with the hot sauce.
She quickly grabbed the lid in her defense and covered the pot.
She suddenly realized, she'd have to change her strategy in the kitchen if she was going to survive this lot, I mean...she'd been hit from all sides today, and wasn't going to be defeated by the enemies lurking in the shadows.
She felt like she was at war with "who knows what", since waking this morning Lol!
Armed with her wooden spoon and pot lid, she was determined to fight through the flying coffee beans and hot sauce.
After about an hour of stirring and peeking into the pot, it seemed to be coming together at last.
Silver Mamma Chef was happy with the texture, then tested it by putting a spoon of jam on a plate and holding it side ways, if it didn't run off, then it meant it's ready, she remembered reading it in the recipe. Lol!
She sterilized the bottles in a pot of boiling water before filling them with the contents.
Silver Mamma Chef was able to get two little jars of jam out of that lot.
She was in two minds whether to tempt the Chutney, but she had already boiled all the beetroot and couldn't let it go to waste.
Beetroot Chutney Silver Mamma Chef's version.
She chopped up the onion, garlic and chilies, then fried it in a pan on medium heat.
Silver Mamma Chef added some curry powder, cumin, and a little salt and pepper.
Frying all the ingredients together until cooked, then set it aside.
She chopped up a red pepper and put it in the blender with chopped up beetroot, then added the fried onion mixture, blending into puree like she did with the jam recipe.
After adding the juice of three lemons, she thought she might as well
add some lemon zest for flavor.
Silver Mamma Chef never throws her seeds away, she plants them in seedling containers, eventually sprouting into green pepper trees.
No wasting in her kitchen Hehe!
She has a lemon three growing in a pot after planting a whole lemon.
Even tomato trees, but, before Silver Mamma Chef gets carried away with her propagation skills, lets stick to the making of Jam and Chutney.
Oh dear...she's so easily distracted...(must be the ADHD).
The stirring started all over again, this time she was on super alert, armed with the lid of the pot.
She added half a cup of sugar, tasting now and then and adding this and that to enhance the flavor.
Silver Mamma Chef wasn't taking any chances with the hot bottles while filling the jars.
Well!...after all that effort, and been bombed with coffee beans and hot sauce, Silver Mamma Chef was able to get 6 bottles of Chutney and two bottles of Jam and one bottle of Pickled Beetroot.
She even managed to bake a loaf of bread amidst all the chaos in the Kitchen.
I'll let you into a little secret...I don't think Silver Mamma Chef will be making Beetroot Chutneys or Jam again any time soon. Lol!
