Given my experiences in life so far, I think the best thing anyone can do is prioritize their own happiness and well being. I always tell myself and others that I am existing for me, primarily. This doesn't mean that I am a selfish one who doesn't care about others, if anything focusing on myself offers me the grace to extend myself and consideration to others. It is true what they say that you cannot pour from an empty cup. You can only meet someone on the level you have been able to attain for yourself.
Living for yourself does not mean ignoring others and their needs, it just means treating yourself as priority number one. When you focus on yourself, the actions of others have very little bearing on your life. You don't overthink things or take their faults to heart because that is their own life they are living. How it affects you is up to you.
I have decided to be hyper focused on my own little bubble of life. Where I make the rules and call the shots. To successfully achieve this, I have to decenter everyone and emancipate myself from the brutal lens of public opinion. The things around us are greatly influenced by how we feel on the inside, the inner work we have done.
One significant thing that living for myself has done for is raise my confidence level. There is so much power in seizing and controlling your own narrative. A confident persons knows You are what you say you are, regardless of how anyone may feel about it. A confident person does not care for external validations because they know people's words don't hold so much weight.
Despite the situation we find ourselves in, it is important that we stay true to ourselves, prioritizing our well being. Being gracious to ourselves and in extension to others.
