I settled in my grandmother's old house. As I entered, I realized that everything there was the same as when I left. It seemed as if time had stopped and, immediately, many memories came to my mind.
It was inevitable not to cry. I remembered how much my grandmother loved me and what she did so that I could fulfill my dreams. Thanks to her, I was happy, she pushed me to follow them.
Thanks to her work in the coffee fields, from sun up to sun down, picking the beans, threshing, drying, grinding, I was able to leave the village. I remember that he put in my hand an envelope tied with a white ribbon. When I opened the envelope, far from home, it contained money and a letter.
Now, I had to return, even though she was no longer physically there, I had a commitment with that sweet old lady I loved so much. In that letter she asked me to return to town when she died, because she was going to leave two things for me.
The first one I had to take out of a trunk that I had hidden in the back of my closet. My grandmother described it to me as a sealed envelope that only I could open. I lived with this secret for several years. I would find out about the second one when I opened that envelope.
The first thing I did was to go to the closet and take out the trunk. Ahí encontré el sobre de mi abuela. I unfolded a piece of paper yellowed by time and found a recipe, almost illegible in some parts.
It was the recipe for his favorite dessert, a recipe he never shared with anyone. The recipe for his famous coffee dessert, the one that I liked so much and that everyone in town and beyond liked. I found out about the second one when I finished reading the recipe.
I couldn't believe it!
My grandmother was leaving me a coffee shop in town.
Underneath the recipe she explained to me that very young she got involved in the coffee business and had opened a coffee shop in town. It was very famous for the coffee dessert it offered and that everyone liked it. She told me that she had to close it to come to town with the love of her life, because her family did not accept the relationship with my grandfather Pablo.
She told me in the letter that only I could open the coffee shop again, renovate it according to my taste and prepare the coffee dessert she loved to make.
In town, I only stayed the days necessary to pick up my grandmother's things, clean the house, make some donations to the church and close it again with the promise to come back more often.
In town, a coffee shop awaited me, which soon became my passion. I designed it to my liking and started offering coffee of all kinds and desserts, but the most special, my grandmother's dessert. That's what I called it, grandma's dessert. It was prepared with coffee. Everyone who visited me loved it and always came back to enjoy a good cup of coffee with grandma's dessert.
So, who forgets such a beloved grandmother? She will always be remembered sweetly.
I leave you in photos the recipe of this dessert that today my family, friends and customers acclaim.
This story was inspired by real events. My maternal grandmother taught me how to prepare quesillo de leche, a traditional dessert from my country, Venezuela. I treasure her recipe with all my love. I have been trying other mixtures, among these, with coffee and it is a delight for all of us who love this beverage.
If you dare to prepare it, I leave you this publication in which I shared my recipe.
Enjoy!
