WEEK 15 RESPONSE

in #gradnium3 years ago

This post is a response to @atamme question, "Does the use of force by government bans make people want to rebel more?" I think that forcing people to do anything makes them want to rebel more. Take teenagers for example. Often times, parents have rules that their children should follow. I have realized that children with strict parents tend to rebel more. I used to have some friends with strict parents, and it caused them to disobey their parents more. If their parents didn't want them out past a certain time, they would sneak out of the house at that time. Thankfully, my parents weren't overbearing and I never felt the need to rebel against them. They have rules in place, but I follow them because they aren't strict. This plays into how the government causes people to rebel. An example I will use are mask mandates. On the airplanes and in the airport, there has been a mask mandate. I have seen videos and even seen people in the airport decide not to wear a mask even though it was mandated. Unfortunately, the people who didn't wear a mask were treated horribly in some cases. I personally don't like masks and I wouldn't wear one on a plane if I didn't care about avoiding conflict. I don't like getting in trouble, so I try to just suck it up. I think part of the reason as to why people rebel when the government forces people to do things is because we like being free. Besides, we are supposed to be the "Land of the free". When the government places mandates, then we are no longer completely free. This is why people rebel. I even rebelled when there were mandates to be quarantined. Right when COVID first started and we were told to stay home, I went to my boyfriend's house in Tulsa to see him. I had already planned this trip to see him before COVID happened, so I still went anyways. I didn't listen to the government. Another example is the prohibition of alcohol. When alcohol was not allowed, people bootlegged alcohol. In fact, people created speakeasies to serve people alcohol. The point is, when the government forces people to do something, they disobey what is wanted.
