When it comes to personal data, we need a lot of space and that's when having the data in the cloud plays an important role. I have been using Google Drive for storing my data ever since I started using my Android phone. Earlier having our photos in Google for a free one but now they are not allowing us to store our images in Google Photos for free. 15 GB is the limit for storing our data which includes Google Photos as well.
I'm paying for data storage and I used to pay for 100 GB storage. But recently after they introduced the 30 GB plan, I downgraded to this plan thinking that it should be sufficient for me. Now 80 percent of my storage is already full and it is forcing me to either upgrade or remove some of the data from the drive. I did some checks last week and removed some of the data and it appears that it is not going to help soon I might have to remove some more data so that I can accommodate more storage.
Having our cloud storage
I have my servers and I have a lot of space in the cloud storage. This is when I thought that it might be good to have a copy of my data on the servers that I have been using. Mostly the space is always free and most of my consumption is at the RAM level or in the CPU level. Disk space is pretty decent which can be used for other purpose.
I have also thought about having my disk station at home that can be used as my cloud storage device. One of the biggest drawbacks of this is hardware failure. I'm not sure if I will be able to completely protect the data if I have it on my server. If there is a hardware failure, I might be able to recover the data if it is in the cloud storage. But in the local environment, I'm not sure if I can guarantee or take care if there is a hardware failure.
One of the best solutions can also be having multiple copies of the same files and photos on different locations.
Having a backup
Having a backup for our data is a very good thing and pretty much everyone prefers having a backup for the data. Since the data we might be storing is sensitive one, it is also better to use multiple places to store the same data so that it will not be lost. Having a disk station at home and making it available on the cloud can be a little costly solution and having that is safe because we can monitor the data whenever we want and we might have full control over the data.
Alternatively, I also use some of the other storage services that provide a decent amount of storage size. For example, Megaz provides about 50 GB of storage. But the best thing is to have our cloud storage and this way we will be able to access our data from anywhere and not pay anything except the initial cost of the setup and configuration. Breakever may not be a near future thing but it can happen gradually.
