Non plastic milk containers

in #hive-167922yesterday

Plastic is everywhere, especially in purchasing products from the market. Milk is essential, and we cannot get enough nutrients if we ignore milk unless we have some kind of allergy or other reasons to not consume milk. Now talking about the container in which it is packed and distributed, we can see that mostly it is plastic. Even if we go for other solutions, it is unreliable and either costly or not durable.

Reusable plastics

This was one of the options suggested for milk where the milk distributors can use safe renewable plastics that can be used for milk and maybe recycled or reused for something else. This is an option but the price of the packaging material can become very costly. The companies will want to look for alternatives that are cheaper than the current solution and not the ones that are costlier than the current solution. We know it is harmful but we still have got used to it and we don't want to come out of it.

The glass bottle is another alternative. People can use the glass bottle and they can give it back to get a new one and keep doing this again and again. The milk packaging companies should clean the bottles and sterilize it and use it again. This is a proper option and this option is being used in several places. This is also a cost-effective solution as long as the container is reusable and safe for use. Glass bottles are non-plastic so they don't do any harm to anyone.

Finding a local milk vendor

This is the final solution that is working for many people. Either government should take the initiative to make people collect milk from the nearest location or people should find a vendor from whom they can purchase milk locally. We are doing this at home. We stopped getting milk from the government. They come in plastic packets. But that's not the reason instead we wanted to pick a local vendor from whom we get it so that we know what we get is pure milk and nothing else. If we collect milk from factories or other packets, it is mostly processed or with some additional chemicals that can harm our health.

The milk from a local vendor usually comes in a container where it is delivered to our house in person. Most are done with metal containers so there is no possibility for plastics. The local vendor options are not a cheap option. We end up spending some extra money compared to what our government is offering. But we can say that it is better and healthier comparatively. They say that if we go to the government milk factory and see how they process the milk that is collected, we will stop consuming milk after that. They also say that it is usually good to consume milk from one cattle and not mix it with multiple cows.

We usually consume at least 5 kilograms from local producers. We both make yogurt at home and drink it. Of course, we take that milk in a plastic container, but it is transparent so you can see what is in it. But this is not possible with small plastic containers. The other day, water came out of a milk package sold in a market where I live. The milk of that brand was recalled, but we no longer trust closed and plastic packages.

Transitioning to reusable glass bottles and supporting local vendors are commendable solutions that not only reduce plastic waste but also promote healthier, unprocessed milk options.

While the initial cost may be higher, investing in sustainable practices ultimately benefits our health and the environment

I NEVER buy milk in plastic bottles, there is the risk of microplastic poison that you can drink... I always buy only in tetrapak which is a bit better, in glass it's impossible to find same as local producers unless you live in the mountains
