"No...!!!" she screamed, wiggling her body around like an earthworm on a salty ground.

The air on her skin rose up like they were ready to magnet anything close to them to bring them out of their fearful nature.

"Please, just take me instead." Raine whimpered quietly, afraid her voice may be too loud enough for him to hearGod. Does he even exist? Her mind mocked she didn't care if she'd be the one dying as long as Daisy lives.

"Daisy..." she called out, hoping in endless misery she'd hear her chuckle, but nothing came. Instead, she was hit with silence, so deafening even the sound of her heartbeat fears her.

It is the darkness!

But, she knows it wasn't just about the darkness but the weight it carried. The deep hollowness it left in her heart. Raine held her head up in her dark room, searching left and right like a spy on a day job. Her breath was hot, but it didn't matter. What matters is her survivalHer survival? Then why aren't you picking the call? Coward! Her mind screamed at her. Daisy, she needs to survive, Raine thought, disregarding her mind remarks.

"I am not scared, I am..."

Ring, Ring, Ring The sound of her phone's ringtone came to life, cutting her sentence short.

Raine felt water drain her soul like she was in a turbulent sea. Her body shook fervently as her hand lazily pushed forward to where her phone layI thought you said you weren't scared? Her mind chuckledbut she stopped midway crying her eyes off with her hands on her mouth to muffle whatever sound was left in her voice-store.

"Mama, please, don't let her come to you. I don't want to be alone again," Raine pleaded, staring at the dark ceiling in her room.

She tried to breathe in again while drowning off the sound of her phone ringing but she noticed the mucus that surrounded her nose made it hard to breathe in so, she gave up literally, hoping her death would make her sister live.

But, the torture from her phone wasn't done yet. "What if it is the hospital calling?" "Maybe she survived the surgery?" What if she didn't? Her mind whispered breaking down every positive mindset she was trying to build.

"Go away!" Raine screamed at herself. "She will survive! I already prayed to God. I told him to pass the tumor to me so he would do it!" Raine added, hitting her chest in the process.

But, deep inside, her world has crashed. She didn't believe the shit she had just uttered. She doesn't believe in God or anything. They already took her mom away from her. If any mystical being truly exists, then it wouldn't have taken away her sweet mom. It wouldn't have made them watch as their mother went through that cancerous pain. It would have been kind with her in death, but no... she was in pain.

"Why??? Why did you take her away from me? And now her? Daisy! Isn't her name too sweet for you...you sicko!" she wailed loudly, wrapping her hands on her small frame with tears raining down her eyes.

Her phone rang again, and Raine swore loudly, picking up the phone in anger. She saw the name HR written boldly on her phone's screen.

Haha... It seems like they need to check if I am alive to pick up my sack later. Maybe they would have employed someone else to fill my position. Insane beings, Raine chuckled, watching as her phone danced rhythmically on the cold floor.

Shaking her head, Raine settled her head on the cold floor. With her middle finger stretched, she picked up the last piece of tissue on the floor to blow her nose. Her heart was shattered, and she had lost the will to live. Her mind went back to hours ago when the doctor had spoken.

"We encountered some complications while removing the tumor, so she went into a coma. We've done our best. The patient will to survive is what we..." she didn't even let him end his talk before running out of the hospital.

She could still feel the wind that surrounded her as she ran outside toward wherever her leg could lead her, and it led her home. A home that has now become a house to her without her sister's presence.

Her phone rang again, and this time, it was Sarah, one of her colleagues at the marketing team. She had met Sarah when she went to the beach. After her mom's death, Raine had always gone to the beach whenever she saw people with their parents. Though at 23, she still felt pain. Losing her mom at 14 years of age was brutal. Her dad's death had come 4 years before her mother's death. Life had never been fair.

...and it was there she met Sarah. Sarah had seen her crying so she came nearer and they both cried. For Sarah, her boyfriend cheated on her, and she just found out. They were two strangers in pain but in different pain, so she thought. She didn't know Sarah was one of her colleagues at work until she introduced herself.

The truth was that, ever since her mother's death, Raine had refused friendship or any sort of closeness to people, her eyes were always up, but she wasn't able to fight off the closeness with her sister. It just happened.

For Sarah, they had exchanged numbers that night they met. That was a year ago, though, they weren't really close friends. Raine made sure of that.

Her phone rang again with Sarah's name before a loud thud was heard on her door.

At first, Raine wasn't sure it was her home the knock was coming from, but it came again and again. Afraid it was the hospital staff coming to tell her to prepare for the funeral, Raine pushed herself further, almost under her bed with her head buried.

Minutes passed, but it felt like hours. The next minute Raine would raise her head up, she met with her sister's face in a light room, and Raine couldn't help but cry. "Oh, no! She's dead!" Raine screamed.

A hand drew her out of the bed. "Raine, it's me, Sarah. Your sister is alive. We are in your room. We just switched on the light." Sarah said loudly enough, giving Daisy an apologetic look at her outburst.

"Raine... Raine, it is me, Raine. Please look at me." Daisy called quietly.

Raising her head up, Raine burst into tears, but no water came out of her eyes.

"You look like you were the one who is sick," Daisy said, coming closer to where Raine sat and hugged her. "It is fine. I am well, I promise." Daisy added.

Hugging her sister back, Raine continued crying.

"I didn't know you loved me as blindly as this,” Daisy joked. "I love you too, but girl... you are a mess!" Daisy said with a chuckle.

"I.. I ...was.. was scared. They said you were in a coma." Raine spoke with a sniff.

"I woke up three days later, and Sarah had to come pick me up. She has been calling you with no response, so she called my number. Luckily, I was awake, and her call was the first call I had. I knew you'd be a mess, so I had to hurry home." Daisy spoke.

"You have Sarah's number? How?" Raine questioned.

"She's the only friend you have, of course, I know her." Daisy replied with a laugh.

"Wait... what do you mean three days ago? So, I have been stuck indoors for three days? And I am not even hungr..."

Grrrrggghhh her stomach rumbled, cutting her sentence short, and Raine couldn't help but laugh.

Thank you

Hello, always at the order

I could feel Raine's sisterly compassion for Daisy as I read the story. Wishing sickness and death upon herself just to spare her sister. It's a good thing Diasy later survived the surgery otherwise Raine's heart might have broken in a thousand pieces.

Good story, thanks for writing.

Yes, it is a good thing she did. I appreciate your presence here. Thanks for stopping by.

It seemed that Raine had lost a loved one again, but luckily life did not want that to happen and gave her a little more time to live with her sister. An emotional story.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Excellent Thursday.

Yeah, life gave her more time with her sister, which is a good thing. Thanks for reading. I appreciate the time spent.

Excellent Thursday.

Thank you

Very gripping story, I felt Raine's pain. Nice outcome that her sister made it out of the coma. And I liked how you ended with the rumbling stomach and brought it all back down to earth again.

Thank you for your response. Yes. I do, too. I liked the way the story ended with the two sisters. Thanks for stopping by, and do have a good day.
