These are the remains of the city wall, which once protected the ancient Chersonesos from enemy raids
Now it is a protected area in which excavations are constantly carried out.
More and more artefacts are coming to light, by which you can judge about life in that distant era.
At the end of the post I will show you the remains of the ancient walls and foundations of this city. In the meantime, let's walk along the shore of the Black Sea.
Now we are on the very shore by the water and we can see the cape of Chersonesos, which goes into the sea and on the edge of which a part of the city gate is preserved.
We will now come round to the right of this spot and climb up the high bank. The promontory is on our right.
This trail leads us to the gate we observed from below.
This hill is still waiting for archaeologists. You can see the ruins of the city wall.
The city is under our feet, it's hard to believe.
We go down a little bit closer to the sea.
Here's a view of the gate we looked at from below at the beginning of the post.
Here are the walls and foundations that I promised to show at the end. The excavation area is relatively large. But it's a separate story. I will tell it if anyone is interested.
