Mycelic Morphoids are in a constant state of growth and development. As part of Queen Mycelia's brood, Morphoids work to spread the growing blight on Praetoria. Infected themselves by the poison, they take root near streams and rivers, contaminating it with the blight. In turn, the waters feed them, and a second Morphoid sprouts from the original. Together, the two travel as one until they split and continue the process. - Splinterlands Lore
Mycelic Morphoid - Low cost
Hey Splinterfans, Gamers and Collectors!
Today I'll be reviewing a powerful, low cost starter card in the P2E game Splinterlands!
Mycelic Morphoid is a card you start with right away. It's a common card, with one of the lowest mana costs in the game.
Stat Breakdown:
As seen above, Mycelic Morphoid has a straightforward skillset.
Level 1-2, Nothing gained on first level up, has 1 Melee, 1 Speed, 2 HP for a low cost of 1 Mana.
Level 3-9, This card starts to be noticed once you are hitting higher levels, as it gains the precious Thorns ability. In addition, this card scales up to 2 Attack by level 7, and 3 Speed by level 9.
At max level, It is granted with 1 last HP, finishing off with 2 Melee, 3 Speed, 3 HP and Thorns at 1 Mana cost.
So where does this card shine?
Mycelic Morphoid is a solid "filler" card for any rank.
It is a starter card, so it works well as a sponge to take a hit up front, or as cheap attack from the rear if the ruleset allows it. Once it has the Thorns ability, this card is a nice frontline choice for low mana rulesets, melee only, and for the backline in sneak and other similar rulesets.
There are other low mana choices, notably Furious Chicken and Fungus Fiend. While neither gains the Thorn ability, they cost 0 mana and have similarly low but basic melee stats. Fungus fiend does shine in Diamond+ vs. this card, due to the Fungus fiend having a much better ability at max level.
Overall, it's a good card, and my gold foil Morphoid is one of my favorite cards in Bronze-Silver league, not quite as much in gold though.
Where I like to use this card:
I primarily use this card when the mana cap is low, or if there are rulesets relating to melee. The thorns ability has won me countless games, and it's a reliable, cheap card.

I'm back again for early season, so I have a much stronger deck then I usually would if in silver. (over 150K I believe) In this battle, the poison ruleset was annoying and I needed to get my daily quest done for earth splinter. I decided on putting morpoid up front with soul fiend behind, as I usually like to do.
This works nice especially in this slow ruleset, morphoid also has a high chance to dodge in this game.
It doesn't do much this fight, but it takes a hit for the team, and I still secure a victory!

I go for a similar strategy here. With the no armor and enrage ruleset, melee is a very tempting offer. So I chose morphoid for the front to take a hit for the team and hopefully activate the thorns. This worked very well! I put behind, Flesh Ogre and some other strong cards to carry the team. Morphoid usually doesn't turn the fight in itself, however it is a very powerful and useful utility card! 1 Mana for thorns!
Undervalued or Overvalued?
At the time of writing, this card sits at a very low $0.05. Perhaps this card is low in price due to it being a starter. I think that many people overlook the fact it has Thorns later, since it's a starter and they likely use it as a 1 or 2 hit meatshield. Compared to some of the competition, it is a tad weaker than preferable. However, it's still a solid pick, especially alongside the competition.
My thoughts - It's very undervalued. Low mana cards, especially 1 or 2 mana, have historically been in high demand on this game.
Thank you for reading, have a wonderful week!
