Sketchtember day 16: Saints

in #hive-15869418 days ago

Hello guys~~ How are you? It's me again and I am getting really happy with how fast my skills have been improving this month, or rather, how much they're heading back o my old skill level before I started alternating traditional art and digital art.
It is day 16 and the prompt for today is the fear of saints or hagiophobia I am not quite sure if I count this as rational or irrational because I can only imagine this would be bad for people that have been watching so many blasphemous horror films OR they grew up in a cult.
Personally, I also get scared of saint statues. You see, hagiophobia covers the fear of saints and religious items. So this could also be for atheists and/or satanists, but I don't think even they would develop such fears unless they really did get pulled into cultist and Satanist rituals.

Materials: chalk, white gel pen, black pen
Duration: 3.5 hours ;;-;;

I do like how I did this one because the shading is just on point, but I feel so bad drawing her like this and I even intended to make her cry blood but I think I'd ruin the drawing if I did that ;;-;; and I would feel even worse since I would feel so blasphemous I feel like I'd sin. And I'm not even that religious but I at least respect the mother. I do feel like I went a little too hard on the shading though, because she looks like she fell out of grace in this take. Or maybe I should have inked the paper beforehand? But oh well, it's done and I'm happy with it.

So this is my starting sketch, I am happy I witched to dark graphite pencils so now I can actually see my sketch XD Then I did a cool gray marker layer so I can see what needs shading, what needs highlights and blending, etc. IDK since I've used this technique as base, I think my art has been improving? Or maybe that's just me? but it definitely saves me from doing a base color with pens and it kind of preserves the paper's integrity.

Then this is the detailing OwO I like this technique I picked up on TikTok about using a paper stump for blending pen ink as well. I didn't think it would work much buuuttt look at how smooth the shading is now OwO so I might end up using this technique in a lot more artworks from here on out.

Then I started incorporating my chalk once I've done enough shading and it really gives off that smooth finish kind if similar to graphite when you look at it from a distance, but if you look closely, you defitely will see the pen strokes the smudging and the calk could never erase and that's perfectly fine.

Then here is before all the finishing touches. I would have stopped here, but my perfectionist self just wouldn't let me. I kept thinking that a bit more shading would really do her justice. I would feel bad if I drew the mother so horribly. And that's how I ended up with my finished drawing XD by guilt tripping myself.

And this concludes my day 16! Soon I really need time for myself. I need to build a template and a few banners for myself. I also need time to learn a bit of video editing if I plan to be consistent with my art, hive and tiktok, and hopefully open up portraiture commissions within the year because the child really needs to save up money ;;-;;

Day 16 is done~~ Day 17 is underway! Thank you guys for always supporting me and for stopping by ^^
