LA FAMILIA DE MI PADRE
Mi abuelo paterno murió a los 49 años de edad. Su padre también murió muy joven. Mi bisabuela Petra Camejo de Zapata al quedar viuda asumió, en su totalidad, la administración del hato, así como también, la crianza de su único hijo Fabriciano Zapata Camejo. Doña Petra, así le decían, por respeto y consideración, era una mujer morena, de regular tamaño y contextura, con un natural don de mando y carácter.
Tuvo a sus órdenes aproximadamente 20 personas fijo y en tiempos de trabajo de llano ese número duplicaba. Cuando Fabriciano tuvo edad de montar a caballo lo mandaba, al cuidado del caporal y de dos o tres llaneros, a participar en los trabajos de llano para que aprendiera y conociera las propiedades y bienes que serían suyos en el futuro porque era el único heredero.
En la medida que mi abuelo crecía, mi bisabuela le iba cediendo algunas responsabilidades relacionadas con el manejo del hato. El único reconocido fue Lorenzo y por tal razón heredó una tercera parte de los bienes de Doña Petra. Lorenzo también gustaba del licor y las parrandas. Sus bienes los compartieron con una señora que vivía con él y sus dos hermanos de padre y madre. Fue un hombre trabajador, organizado, servicial, no fue parrandero ni bebedor.
