Describe what you see
I see two people, preferably old friends or couple, walking under a pale blue coloured umbrella, along a lonely raod covered with autumn leaves.
Describe what you feel
I feel the need to reconnect as both people try to chat and catch uo on old times. I sense a long standing crush between the two of them but they share a camaraderie that surpasses time and distance, each comfortable in one another's company.
Story
Julia was only eight years old when Ben Munroe and his entire family relocated from Summerville. He had been her best friend, shucks, he was her everything. She recalled flashes of how he stood up for her against the three meanies in school. Thise girls liked nothing more than to see her cry intil Ben stood up to them and warned them off.
Standing across the road from Ben's house, she could see the white pickup van waiting to be loaded with furniture and other necessary items to be moved. She raised her head uo to stare at the too right window where she knew Ben would be and true to her thoughts, she saw him, standing there with his back turned away from the glass and his head hung low like he was sorry to be leaving.
A call from Uncle Munroe, Ben's dad, got Ben racing down to the front door. His dad wanted his help with something in the van. I watched patiently as they were all engrossed in packing their stuff that no one noticed me,not even Ben. After watching for close to an hour, a sad sigh escaped my lips. "Maybe this was for the best" I thought to myself. I sensed a pair of eyes on me and I slowly raises uo my head to meet Ben's eyes. My little heart fluttered joyfully and I couldn't helo the smile that graced my lips. Ben staring at me with like emotions also smiledand waved before boarding the van, leaving Summerville behind.
12 years later
I was running as fast as my legs could carry me but I was still a great way from my little cottage, left to me by my grandma. It was autumn, the leaves covered the road in a golden hue making it appear breathtakingly beautiful. I paysed to stare at some leaves as the danced slowly to the ground and that was when I saw him. I knew without a doubt that it was Ben. All these years did nothing to change the way he stands or the crooked way he bends his neck when in deep thought.
Sensing my presence, he turned to look at me and he smiled. It was so heartwarming to see. He walked up to me and said "Hello Julia, long time ni see". The words I had long rehearsed hung on my pallets, refusing to come out. Noticing my anxiousness, he chuckled and went on to press my cheeks just like he did when we were kids. "How are you Ben?" I mustered to say and he replied "I've been good Julia. I miss you". Without waiting for a cue, I jumped into his arms for a hug. It felt so so right but that was when the sky decided to shower at us as little drops of rain began to drizzle.
Ben ran to quickly pick up a pale blue coloured umbrella I didn't take notice of before. He opened it and said the most beautiful words I've ever heard. "Let's go home Julia". Smiling at him, I nodded in affirmation and we both walked down the road whilst the wind danced with the trees and the droolets of rain kissed the umbrella.
Deep down, I knew he was here to stay.
