A major Loophole

When it comes to transportation, I think in a way my part of the country is fair in transportation, I have also been to states in Nigeria where there is an easier transportation system than my state. But then some states are even worse and nothing to write home about. We have good roads so we can’t attribute the situation of poor transportation to our roads.

Sometimes we get to experience traffic problems, but it might be due to some reasons such as working on a bad road or when there is a certain vehicle which fell by the roadside but then we do not experience traffic majority of the time compared to states like Lagos, I heard that most times you can spend more than 2 hours in a Lagos traffic and I have never experienced that in my state.

Regardless of traffic problems, if there is one thing my area faces is the high cost of fuel attributed to fuel scarcity. This has raised the price of different transport products, example fuel and petrol. Fuel is scarce and as a result, the price of fuel is very high. The price we pay for transportation has increased. A place in which you could go for a certain amount before, right now the price to that place could be twice the previous amount.

That’s why, these days if an outing isn’t important people stay back at home because of the high cost of transportation. A few days back, I was out with a friend and we noticed a very long queue at the petrol station and it was so early in the morning. This is as a result of the fuel scarcity as well. When they struggle to get fuel and finally get it, they tend to now increase the cost of transportation and most times you can’t blame them because the fuel prices are outrageous. These days people don’t even use their private cars because they are trying to cut down on fuel expenses.

I feel the case of fuel scarcity and the high price of fuel is absurd in a way. In 2019, I was an intern in a refining company and I noticed that the production is so slow. Sometimes you find out that there’s distribution of various crude oil products including fuel but then the country still goes through fuel scarcity. The refineries are not even functioning properly. For 2 years, I found out that some refineries were going through rehabilitation and no production.

For a country that has crude oil, and still experience fuel scarcity and other crude oil product scarcity it is an embarrassment. This has affected transportation and other areas in which these products are used. The country should focus on its own natural resources and refineries. The money we use in importing fuel could be used to make our refineries better for proper production.

If the country can adapt to maximizing our resources and not depending outside I am certain we can deal with this.

Hello dr,

😂😂😂😂

WE are also facing high fuel prices problem and i think this is due to the high fuel prices in the international market or may be our government have corrupts people.

Exactly, corruption is another issue as well.

The scarcity of fuel in Nigeria is a case study on it's on. This particular reason I think is the reason behind the expensive sales of goods in the market and it just bad for a country like Nigeria.

We are experiencing an aftermath of decisions made by leaders who do not think before they act. There has been a lot of deliberation about the best way to reduce fuel price and fuel scarcity which boils down to our ability to refine our crude oil. Trying to make this a reality, our president decides to give an announcement about the removal of fuel subsidy without creating a fall back plan. That announcement itself gave tycoons in the petroleum industry a reason to hike the price of petroleum even when it was still available in other to make more profit.

I also think these people in leadership are not affected, because they find it easy to get these amenities

Ohh yah when it comes to transportation there are basically some states in Nigeria that wack in this eg, lagos abuja ph. The best I've seen so far is Delta

I haven’t been to Delta though, but i think Abuja is great most times and port harcourt as well compared to Lagos

Hmmmm Abuja I wont be so sure but portharcort is manageable, lagos is the worst
