I'm looking to take on more responsibility at work but before that, I've been getting recognition for the work I've done so far. I've been tasked with training new starters and I've got to say, it is high praise for the work I've done so far.
I've also been sending out internal job applications to see how I can climb up the ladder. Whether it's increasing my income or change of job role, I find myself looking at alternatives to working in retail.
One thing I can say for sure is that I seem to have a knack for retail. My last two jobs have been in retail; one at a bet shop and the other, being my current role, at an insurance broker. In both roles I excelled quite rapidly and was tasked with more responsibility pretty quickly.
Retail comes with its challenges but at the core of it is customer service and I think the key to surviving in those roles is to manage your emotions. Customers will test you but maintaining composure and keeping a positive energy is the key to winning in the role.
Anyway, at my current job, I'm now faced with a dilemma of minor proportions. So, I was recently awarded with an increase in my income that could potentially match the pay level of some other internal roles I applied for. It sort of puts me in a weird position because I'm appreciated in my role and have the ears of my superiors.
I fear that moving to a different role, while better for my career may be challenging at the start because while I'm still in the same company, I'll be starting afresh.
To be completely honest, I'd prefer a role that doesn't have me taking a crazy amount of phone calls. However, at the same time, I want a role that allows me to grow and my current role seems to offer that opportunity.
I'm now caught in between two favourable choices but I need to pick one and live with it. My guy is telling me to stay where I am while my brain is telling me to go for a different role because it's going to be a nice adventure.
