Let me start by saying, I don't care who buys Twitter. Whether it is Elon Musk, The Island Boys or Justin Sun, I couldn't care less.
If Elon decides to buy it and renames it to Titter so we can post Tits, I still won't care. yes, that will be a huge improvement but it still won't matter.
People are talking about Free speech and all that crap coming to Twitter because of Elon Musk. People think that there are going to be some changes in the platform simply because a meme loving, Dogecoin shilling Billionaire shows interest in buying the platform.
I see people producing long threads about Twitter being decentralised, being crypto-friendly and all that shit. Jesus Christ, are you guys babies? Do you even have a grasp on reality?
Okay, first of all, Elon wants to BUY Twitter, this means Twitter belongs to him. However, Twitter isn't just one tiny application that he can manage alone, he will still retain the majority of the Non-Karen employees that want to continue working there.
On top of that, people forget that there are so many other parties involved in this debacle, and these are parties that are much bigger than Elon Musk. For one, there's the Vanguard and Investopedia values them at around $7.5 Trillion.
Money is a huge factor but as Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones once pointed out, power is power. As far as Twitter is concerned, there are forces much more powerful than Elon Musk involved.
We all know that numerous government agencies have their hands so far deep in the ass of Twitter's management, that it will be impossible to do anything without their approval.
What the hell are people thinking when they talk all that shit about Elon bringing free speech to Twitter? Do you think nobody will be censored? Do you think anybody that the US deems as a threat will suddenly be able to share their own views?
The wrong person shares a Tweet on the "decentralised" Twitter and it'll be the FBI, CIA or any other three-letter organisation knocking on Elon's door and taking him to a Senate hearing for some grilling.
The most ridiculous of the lot are people that should know better but are busy linking long-ass conversations about a dead issue.
For example, there's a thread from SBF, the founder of FTX exchange writing a long epistle about what a "decentralised Twitter" will look like. It is a fun read but it is also completely useless and is as much a fantasy as a guy wearing Speedos and flying to the Sun to recharge his batteries.
Let's not forget that Twitter will also never stop farming your data. That's their bread and butter after all, and since they have to eat, they won't stop farming, but that's a story for another day.
The moral of the story is that Twitter will never be decentralised and there will never be free speech on the platform. There's nothing Elon Musk can do about it, so please, stop deceiving yourselves.
Free Speech already exists on Hive
A lot of the crypto community on Twitter are intentionally avoiding Hive. They talk about free speech and then they avoid mentioning Hive because it is a cryptocurrency project.
They don't want to accidentally shill hive because they don't have it in their portfolio. So, they'll be intentionally disingenuous and not mention that Hive has the closest thing to free speech.
The Hive community has taken it upon themselves to promote the platform through numerous tweets in response to people asking for "free speech" on Twitter. We'll continue to respond to people, as much as we can but I'm not going to lie, it is tiring to see people that should know better feign ignorance to prove a non-existent point.
The fact remains that the closest thing you'll get to a decentralised platform that champions free speech exists on Hive and it will NEVER be on Twitter. This is because there are forces much more powerful than Elon Musk at play and they will never let it happen.
