Great movie! Often we can't express what we feel in words. I guess I'm in that exact situation right now as I try to write about this film. When I first started watching this movie, I didn't even think it would become one of my favorite films. Describing the emotions inside me is impossible. Films like "Life is Beautiful" make you really want to live. You want to find the positive and cheerful sides of life, even in seemingly impossible places.
The story of the film is quite interesting. It tells the story of an Italian family who falls into a German concentration camp during World War II. I had never thought such events would occur. At first it felt like a pure comedy. Roberto Benigni appears both himself and his character as quite funny. As the film progresses comedy transitions into drama. However the lead actor never loses his smile. He embodies the role of a father who is constantly cheerful and good-natured perfectly. I believe he believes in what he does. His love for his son helps him survive even in the toughest conditions.
The performances of the lead actors really impress me. I really enjoy Benigni's acting. He is definitely talented. Giorgio Cantarini playing the role of Josue, shows how well child actors can perform. Nicoletta Braschi, who plays Benigni's wife and character in the film also did a fantastic job. Her character's behavior at the train station evoked great respect and understanding in me.
The film creates a great impact thanks to its wonderful musical accompaniment. Music plays an important role in every film, and this film is no exception. The music's tone rises or falls at key moments. It creates the impression that the characters are truly present, as if the music is playing.
Much can be said about this film, but it's better for you to see it with your own eyes. It's a very touching film, just a step between comedy and drama, between life and death. And I applaud the extraordinary effort put into this remarkable story.
