LeT’s ViSiT MuRaNo and BuRaNo, 2 iSLaS iN FRoNt of VeNeCiA, ITaLiA

The islands of Murano and Burano are a must if you are visiting Venice. They are two islands that are in front of this capital of Veneto. The first island is called Murano and is quite close to Venice, the second one is Burano and it takes more than 50 minutes to get there from Murano.

There are different ways to enjoy these destinations. You can take a whole day for each, or you can do half a day on one and half a day on the other.

If you are traveling in winter, the latter is an excellent option, as there are not too many people trying to travel from island to island on the vaporettos (Venice's water buses).

The most recommended island from my point of view is Burano, and now we will see why. I will now tell you the basics of your visit to Venice in order to visit these islands.

I will tell you how to get to know these two islands in one day. I recommend you to capture the sunset from the boat, as it is an exquisite experience, since you have the sun almost chasing you.

Las islas de Murano y Burano son un must si vas a visitar Venecia. Se trata de dos islas que están frente a esta capital de Véneto. La primera isla se llama Murano y está bastante cerca de Venecia, la segunda es Burano y toma más de 50 minutos llegar a ella desde Murano.

Hay diferentes maneras de disfrutar de estos destinos. Puedes tomarte un día entero para cada una, o puedes hacer medio día en una y medio día en la otra.

Si viajas en invierno, esta última es una opción excelente, pues no hay demasiada gente intentando viajar de isla en isla en los vaporettos (buses acuáticos de Venecia).

La isla más recomendable desde mi punto de vista es Burano, y ahora veremos el motivo. Te contaré a continuación, aspectos básicos de tu visita a Venecia con el objetivo de visitar estas islas.

Te contaré cómo conocer estas dos islas en un sólo día. Te recomiendo captar el atardecer desde el barco, pues es una experiencia exquisita, ya que tienes el sol casi persiguiéndote.

Murano and Burano islands on your trip to Venice

Venice is a rather large and labyrinthine city, and it is essential that if you are visiting this place for the first time, you at least decide to have a full day to stroll around St. Mark's Square, the Bridge of Sighs, to happily eat a pizza, to get lost in the streets and to visit other attractions unique to Venice.

That is, from my point of view, there is no Murano or Burano if there is no Venice first.

After you secure one or two full days, or may be three half days in Venice, then start thinking about other islands.

Murano and Burano are far away, and to get to them the best thing you can have in your possession is the €35 pass to use for 48 hours in all this area. This will save you a lot of money and you will be extremely calm, because you will know that you can take any Vaporetto whenever you want.

Venecia es una ciudad bastante grande y laberíntica, y es fundamental que si estás visitando este sitio por primera vez, como mínimo decidas tener un día completo para pasear por la Plaza de San Marcos, el Puente de los Suspiros, para comer felizmente una pizza, para perderte por las calles y para visitar otros atractivos propios de Venecia.

Es decir, desde mi punto de vista, no hay ni Murano ni Burano si antes no hay Venecia.

Luego que te asegures uno o dos días completos, o pueden ser tres medios días en Venecia, entonces empieza a pensar en otras islas.

Murano y Burano están lejos, y para llegar a ellas lo mejor que puedes tener en tu poder es el pase de €35 para utilizar durante 48 horas en toda esta zona. Así te ahorrarás mucho dinero y estarás sumamente tranquila/o, pues sabrás que puedes tomar cualquier Vaporetto cuando lo desees.

Murano

You will depart from Venice to Murano in a trip that will take about 40 minutes, and you will arrive at the Murano lighthouse, from where you will walk along a sort of boulevard that leads you to the main canal.

From there you can go anywhere. I had already been told that Murano didn't have much to see, at least in the winter, so I was a bit disinterested, but equally attentive to what the small island had to offer.

Murano is clean and tidy, but very simple. I didn't notice anything that stood out, except for the many shops selling handcrafted products made from the famous Murano glass.

When I went, there were a few places open for lunch or drinks, but I was fortunate that one of them sold tiramisu.

Until I saw it, I had completely forgotten about this delicious Italian dessert, so as I had not eaten for several hours, I enjoyed a delicious tiramisu.

Murano

Saldrás de Venecia a Murano en un viaje que demorará cerca de 40 minutos, y llegarás al faro de Murano, desde donde caminarás por una especie de bulevar que te conduce al canal principal.

Desde allí puedes ir hacia cualquier lugar. A mi ya me habían dicho que Murano no tenía demasiado para ver, al menos en el invierno, entonces sí que iba algo desinteresada, pero igualmente atenta a lo que la pequeña isla ofrecía.

Murano es limpia y ordenada, pero muy sencilla. No noté nada que se destacara, a excepción de los múltiples locales que vendían productos artesanales hechos con el famoso cristal o vidrio de Murano.

Cuando fui, había unos pocos locales abiertos para comer o tomar algo, pero tuve la fortuna de que uno de ellos vendía tiramisú.

Hasta no verlo, me había olvidado por completo de este postre italiano delicioso, así que como llevaba bastantes horas sin comer, pues disfruté de un rico tiramisú.

Burano

The island of Burano, on the other hand, is a delight. About 50 minutes by Vaporetto from Murano, is this little piece of floating land that invites you to stroll.

Coincidentally as happens on trips, I ran into a girl who was at my hostel on a Vaporetto. She told me that she strongly recommended me to go and enjoy Burano, and that if I had to choose then go to the latter. She had been 1 day on each of the islands.

I don't recommend that in winter, as it seems too much for these destinations. Although in case you are looking for calm on your trip to Venice, I would say that these are good opportunities to disconnect, especially in winter.

Burano is spacious, it is colorful and it is somewhat mysterious too, but in a good way. There is a certain energy that lurks on this island, that somehow can transport you to some other time in history. Well, at least that happened to me, I felt like I took a little trip back in time.

Burano in summer the sun must bathe it to show you all its beautiful colors, which are in its houses. Each house has a color: pink, green, violet, yellow, orange, blue. Multiple colors that inevitably made me think of the area of La Boca in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In Burano, the few people I managed to talk to because it was quite late, were extremely friendly. They were all willing to help and guide you, and I say this because yes, at one point I got lost, hehe.

Burano

La isla de Burano por su parte, es una delicia. A unos 50 minutos en Vaporetto desde Murano, se encuentra este pedacito de tierra flotante que invita a pasear.

Casualmente como ocurre en los viajes, me encontré con una chica que estaba en mi hostel en un Vaporetto. Ella me dijo que me recomendaba fuertemente ir a disfrutar Burano, y que si tenía que elegir pues fuera a esta última. Ella había estado 1 día en cada una de las islas.

Yo no recomiendo eso en invierno, pues me parece demasiado para estos destinos. Aunque en caso de que busques calma en tu viaje a Venecia, sí te diría que estas son buenas oportunidades para desconectar, en especial en invierno.

Burano es amplia, es colorida y es algo misteriosa también, pero en el buen sentido. Hay cierta energía que se esconde en esta isla, que de alguna manera puede transportarte a algún otro momento de la historia. Bueno, al menos eso me pasó a mi, sentí que hice un pequeño viaje en el tiempo.

A Burano en verano el sol debe bañarla para mostrarte todos sus bellos colores, que están en sus viviendas. Cada casa tiene un color: rosa, verde, violeta, amarillo, anaranjado, azul. Múltiples colores que inevitablemente me hicieron pensar en la zona de La Boca en Buenos Aires, Argentina.

En Burano, las pocas personas con las que logré hablar porque era bastante tarde, eran extremadamente amables. Todas ellas estaban dispuestas a ayudar y a guiarte, y digo esto porque sí, en un momento me perdí, jeje.

On my visit to these two islands, I was fortunate to be able to see a sunset from Burano. I got exquisite shots of moments before the sunset when I was on the boat, but I did a session that I will leave for another post because the only thing I will achieve is to completely lose the spirit of those photos. They really deserve a separate post.

In Burano that afternoon, the landscape on the island began to turn a little whitish, while in the distance the fluorescent red sun was glimpsed creating a profile of other islands against the light.

A couple, two friends, and I, all separately, were the witnesses of that landscape in a corner of Burano facing the sun.

It is the most emotional and most powerful sunset I have experienced up to this moment, and I was so happy that I shouted “THANK YOU” to the wind, 3 times, because I felt that evening recharged me with energy, and as the sun was setting, I felt like I was waking up.

En mi visita a estas dos islas, tuve la fortuna de poder ver un atardecer desde Burano. Conseguí tomas exquisitas de momentos previos al atardecer cuando iba en el barco, pero hice una sesión que dejaré en otra publicación porque lo único que lograré es perder por completo el espíritu de aquellas fotos. Realmente merecen un post aparte.

En Burano aquella tarde, el paisaje en a isla empezó a tornarse algo blancuzco, mientras a lo lejos se vislumbraba el sol rojo fluorescente creando un perfil de otras islas a contraluz.

Una pareja, dos amigas, y yo, todos por separado, éramos los testigos de aquel paisaje en una esquina de Burano que daba al sol.

Es el atardecer más emotivo y más potente que he vivido hasta este momento, y estaba tan feliz que grité al viento “GRACIAS”, 3 veces, porque sentí que aquella tarde me recargó de energía, y mientras el sol se ponía, yo sentía que despertaba.

When I returned to Venice, what I did was to eat... A PIZZA! The one I had been waiting for since I stepped on Italian soil, hehe.

Cuando regresé a Venecia lo que hice fue comer… UNA PIZZA!! La que había estado esperando desde que pisé suelo italiano, jeje.
