When I see horror movies today, I always say these aren’t as scary as the movies of the 90’s and early 2000’s.I remember the first horror movie I ever watched, of course I would, I had a full blown nightmare about it that could’ve been a movie in-itself.
I stayed with my mum then, I was pretty young, not more than 10 years old. We had very chill Neighbours who would let us hang with them watch movies in their house and even eat from their pot (if you’re from Nigeria, you’d know it’s not easy to trust a neighbor to the extent of letting your child eat from their house, but that was the case with my mum). One of such days Nepa(a power holding coming back in the days) gave us power and i and my siblings had already watched all the cd’s we had so we told one of our neighbor who we called uncle Sammy that we wanted to watch a movie, we begged and disturbed him till he agreed to let us watch a movie from his house. We stayed in his house till past eight watching one of the Chucky movies, honestly I can’t remember which one but what happened next haunts me till this day.My dad got me a teddy bear a couple of months back and I always carried it around, it was my most prized possession. That fateful day I was with my teddy bear watching Chucky, after the movie we had to go through a silent path before getting home. I was so frightened, when we finally got home I soon after slept.
I dreamt like Joseph did. I dreamt that my teddy bear attacked my whole family, leaving no one alive. It told me it loves me and will not let anything or anyone come between us. I begged and cried , telling it how I’d been good to it and how my family doesn’t deserve any of the treatment they were given by it. I literally saw an army of teddy bears bowing to mine, I screamed and woke up(maybe I’ll dedicate a separate post for that dream).I then hid this teddy bear in question under my bed, almost immediately my mum called out to me. A couple of hours later I went to our sitting room trying to forget about my horrible nightmare and guess what this teddy bear was staring right at me from the single settee we had in our small apartment. How did it move from under my bed to this place? I was freaking out.
Since I have always been a person who takes matters into my hands, I carried this teddy bear and threw it into a deep pit beside my neighbors house. My neighbors and siblings saw me perform the act and asked me why I did that and I replied with, “I hate teddy bears”. Till date if I even catch a glimpse of a teddy bear I’m reminded that teddy bears are dangerous and descendants of Chucky.
