General Idea
This is a social blockchain. post and interactions = transactions. The more Hive power that interacts with your content the more that content becomes visible. This allows you to earn HP which in return makes you even more visible on the Hive platform as well.
The attention on Hive goes to where the most Hive Power is interacting with each other. "Your Hive Power + Hive Power of People interacting with you = Visibility on Hive".
And this is also true for getting visibility withins tags that we talked about in previous posts in the Hive Guide for Wax Users.
Due to this mechanism for visibility, it's only natural that people have found ways to work together as a community to help boost each other's posts. This is a social blockchain so participating in the community and building your network of supporters with Hive Power over time is what helps you grow here organically.
Some of the main ways of participating in the community include:
- Posting and Curating in Hive communities
- Posting to Hive consistently (at least 1 post weekly)
- Participating in contests, challenges, and other community events
- commenting (Ecency, tribe frontends, tipping)
- promoting on socials (Twitter - Posh, Discord servers, Reddit, FB)
If you can get into some of these habits you can gain support a lot quicker than just posting and waiting for the magic to happen.
Before we get into anything advanced, let's go over the basics of how to hustle up some upvotes for Hive. This is a social chain so growth and upvotes come with community participation.
Earning upvotes comes with a combination of tasks. But the basic things you'll want to keep in mind here are consistent posting and interacting with others' posts.
Upvoting others' post puts you in their notifications, making them more likely to check your post out. And you earn Hive Power for upvoting content within the first week.
Commenting on other people's posts makes them more likely to check out your page, and maybe even gives you a follow if you leave consistent comments that add to the conversation when they post.
Community Participation - Enter contests, Posting Regularly (1 per week), Unpvoting and Commenting on other posts (Ecency, Leo app, frontends), Sharing to socials like Twitter & Discord
But here's how the basics to grow and get upvotes on Hive breaks down:
Posting and Curating in Hive communities
Posting in the correct communities makes it easier for people who are looking for your kind of content to find it. It also makes it easier for curators to find your post and really help boost your content through the platform.
I'd spend a little time finding some sommunties that you may be interested in under the community tab of either PeakD or Ecency.
After joining Communities, PeakD also makes it pretty easy to post to a community of choice when posting content.
Posting to Hive consistently (at least 1 post weekly)
The reward cycle for posts are 1 week on Hive. And that's also peoples attention span as far as getting familure with other creators. If you post at least once a week, people notice when you post.
- 1 post per is good
- 2 post a week is great
- 3 post per week or more is amazing.
And Hive is a lot more than a blogging platform, so there are different kinds of apps to help you make multiple post per week. Some are for blogging, posting picture, playing games, journaling based of daily step count, podcasting, and more well talk about in later posts...
But the more you're able to post quality content relevant to the communities and tribes youre posting to the better for growing your network and audience on Hive.
Participating in contests, challenges, and other community events
Participating in contest is a really good way to grow your network and get lots of upvotes. Some times contests and challenges are month long events that allow you to get involved in ways outside of posting a submission to the contest. There's also a lot of curation surrounding the bigger contest.
Some contests and challenges are as simple as making a comment on a post. And there can even be extra value here if you connect with some of the other people participating in the comments with you.
Chacking out their posts and seeing if their content is worth the follow for you could be the connection that makes the whole platform worth it for you!
